Hi all,
My wife and I are on our ride and you all were gracious to invite us to your Mid-Atlantic ride-in. We have arrived in Bracey, VA today and my wife informs me her '97 Kawa Vn800a's engine is backfiring and sounds not right. Yes, this is the same bike that the mirror fell off just this side of Amarillo, TX. That was a relatively, if not complicated, fix. We picked up the left mirror in Oklahoma City, and then to match, we picked up the right one in Little Rock, AR (Cycle Gear).
Anyway, I had worked on the exhaust (had to replace a busted bolt) before we left Phoenix so I thought maybe the nuts had loosened up. Nope, after checking them, I fired it up and found an exhaust leak on the front header in the 1st 90d ish curve. It was hot, so I haven't pulled it yet. I will try in the morning and we are visiting with our hosts (and friends) tonight.
So, any ideas on hole repairs I can try after I get it off. I have checked online aftermarkets (OEM is obscene) to replace, but it would probably be Monday before we would get them (eBay).
Well, I received the info on the ride-in, thank you Scott, and we could make it if we can do a temp fix on this. Whatever we do, it has to last until Connecticut at least since we have free lodging there as well (we can stay here in Bracey as long as we want, but we still need to get to New England and back to New Mexico by the middle of October). Hate to miss the ride-in, but I don't want to chance burnt valves or whatever by continuing on as it is. So send me your suggestions quickly and we will see what is best and works.
Blessings,
Ken
PS. I looked and hers are not OEM, but some kind of aftermarket. She loved the sound and wants to keep it that way (I threatened car mufflers so it would be quiet like my '03 Voyager).
