Hi y'all. Been gone for a while. My son needed transportation for a while so has had the bike for the better part of a year. I have it back now, but I'm reaching my limit. Hopefully someone has an idea or....
The neutral light - stays on whenever the clutch is released. Works properly when pulled in; i.e. only lights up when you hit neutral. Any idea where to look?
Is there any way to test the cruise control other than on the road? Since I tightened the cable, it power on, but won't activate.
Other than these 2 issues, the bike runs well. Unfortunately, my situation has changed. My wife has gotten worse, to the point that they just issued us a permanent disabled tag for her car. So she won't be riding at all. At this point, the bike will be mostly commuting and maybe the occasional weekend trip at most. It also means that I don't have huge amounts of time to spend working on it. It may be best to pass this off to someone with the time to fix it up.
One last try before it goes...

Last one I had here to work on drove me nuts for a few hours. It would work and then it wouldn't. Had to remove the handle bar control connector , find the correct pinout, put a buzz box on it and have a helper wiggle the harness. Just as suspected, right where it made its bend around the upper triple tree was an intermittent open condition.... Look at your carb cable setup also and if in doubt just unplug and by-pass that carb switch to see if thats a fault.

For the cruise control to work you need to be in 5th gear and going above about 35 MPH and below 80.

Re: One last try before it goes...
Usually, the problem with the cruise not working when on, is that one of the switches have been tripped that should not have. In other words, check the switches at the front brake and clutch levers, and the rear brake pedal- make sure they click on and off when moving any of these. There is also some at the carbs, but they are not usually the problem. If they do not click on and off, then they need adjusted (rear brake) or something is either sticking on one of the levers, or the switch on one of the levers is not seated or installed correctly.

Re: One last try before it goes...
spray those contacts with a good electrical contact cleaner like CRC. sticky contacts will keep the cruise control from engaging.

I had that exact same issue when I bought my bike. Turned out to be dirty switches on front brake. I cleaned all switches after that and it has been working perfectly ever since.

Re: One last try before it goes...
Hmmm, if it's possibly a switch issue, I wonder if the neutral switch problem could be adding to it?
