Re: Anyone Know This Bike or Dealership?
If you are close to the dealer, make sure you have the cash, or financing, ready to go. Then take it for a test ride -- and be prepared to finalize the deal when you ride back to the dealership! These bikes are fantastic, and that price, with that mileage, is great, IMO. As long as it was taken proper care of, it is a great deal, again, IMO.
I own a '93, had 53k miles when I bought it in 2010 (65k currently). I paid too much for mine back then, but it is still running great. Planning to take it by trailer to Maine, then ride it up to Nova Scotia, and back to the trailer, for the return trip home (not enough time to ride it to Maine, and then back, as we travel much slower on bike compared to four wheels -- smelling the roses!). We ride two up, 99% of the time, usually riding 200+ miles each time we get on -- life prevents us from riding far too often, or we'd have many more miles on it... Would not hesitate to ride our '93 from coast to coast, if we had the $$$, and the time (still working for a living). Have ridden in many types of weather: good, bad, and ugly; bike was flawless. Good luck! Cheers!

Re: Anyone Know This Bike or Dealership?
I believe they pick these bikes up at auction and resell them
Kind of like discount car dealers.
Notice they call it a Vulcan Voyager.That alone would chase me away.
It is a nice looking bike with all that extra chrome on it.
To be honest I think I would look a little closer to home . By the time you add shipping and dealer prep you have 3500 tied up in a 3000 dollar bike.

I don't know who owned it but it is obvious the previous owner loved chrome. Did anyone notice if he left off any accessories?

Re: Anyone Know This Bike or Dealership?
Not a lot missing, just the saddlebag/fairing chrome accents;
chrome mirror shades; driver floorboards; engine guard light bar; passenger armrests; lighted mudflap; false tank chrome rack and Cordura bag; rear rack Cordura bag. I couldn't tell if the rear fender chrome extension was there.

Doesn't have the passenger boards that mount to the crash bars directly in front of the saddlebags either.triton28 wrote:Not a lot missing, just the saddlebag/fairing chrome accents;

I still have only ever seen those on one XII.

Re: Anyone Know This Bike or Dealership?
Thanks for the replies, though I was hoping someone was either the PO or knew the dealership well enough to say their word is gold or stay the hell away from them. Re some of the replies, other than the chrome inventory:
My query comes from the fact that I'm far away from WI, so a test ride is out of the question. I've never before considered purchasing a bike long distance. I've owned several, incl. 2 V XII's, and that is the problem. In a fit of insanity which prioritized garage space over motorcycles, I sold my lovely '98, not quite as fully accessorized as the one in question and with less mileage, to bring the stable count down to two. Seller's remorse presented itself within days.
Since I have experience maintaining V XIIs, I should be able to take care of most minor problems the bike may have. As long as I can get something of a feel from the dealer that there are no known major problems, I *might* consider it.
And regarding the price: that would as usual come out something less than the asking. So adding $400 for shipping should still keep the total under $3k.
Meanwhile, during the time it's taken to talk about it on this forum someone else may have already bought it and I'll just go have a beer and curse.

Re: Anyone Know This Bike or Dealership?
Oh, I forgot to mention someone's comment about the dealership referring to the bike as a Vulcan Voyager. That is quite understandable considering what Mama Kaw did with the "new" Voyager models, i.e., renamed a Vulcan and said here's your new Voyager! What a disappointment, esp. after the great job they did revamping the Concours. If they had only done something as compelling with the Voyager...
That's why I'm still looking at V XII's. I have zero interest in retagged cruisers.

Re: Anyone Know This Bike or Dealership?
Although I live less than 100 miles away I have never been to this dealer ,but ,
I know they put a lot of bikes on craigslist including the 98 you like.a 99 for 1500 that has been there for months and a 96 in the 3000 range and yes even twins.

I found my bike on craigslist ,it was about 100 miles away.Made a deal on the phone if bike was what they said then the deal was made. I guess I took a chance but worked out for me. IMO

Re: Anyone Know This Bike or Dealership?
Normally when they are trying to sell a "Vulcan Voyager XII" they have no idea what they have,but in this case ,considering how many Voyagers I have seen on there site ,they know exactly what they have .Moto_Voyeur wrote:Oh, I forgot to mention someone's comment about the dealership referring to the bike as a Vulcan Voyager.
It really is a good looking bike in the pictures and I hope you can make a good deal.

Re: Anyone Know This Bike or Dealership?
That's exactly how it happened with my last bike purchase, too! A beautifully restored KZ1100D Spectre that was selling for less that what he had to have put into it to restore it.wsm 1 wrote:I found my bike on craigslist ,it was about 100 miles away.Made a deal on the phone if bike was what they said then the deal was made. You just have to know your bike-of-interest well enough to know if it's worth saying "If it's in the condition you say it's in, I'll take it!!!". That's what I did, then used PayPal to give him $100 to hold it for one hour so I could get there to look at it. Worked out great for me since there was another guy already there in case I didn't show up! Whew! Worked out for me this time, too!
