Disaster while riding my Voyager today

Post by RED2stroke »

Hi guys, I live in the UK where Voyager XII's are a very, very rare sight, I bought my bike only a few days ago and I really love it, it gets a lot of attention, but today I got back from my ride realising that the lower left winglet was gone, I had a cramp in my left leg today and when I stretched my leg at around 65mph I must have kicked the winglet off, I do remember it being loose and I should have attended to it, but the call of the open road was just to much, I have been back to the spot where I think it happened, but at 65mph I really think that it could be any where, So if anyone can help with a winglet, any colour I would much appreciate their help, I'm just off to the garage to bang my head against the wall as my lovely bike that had survived intact for 28 years has just been damaged by me..... :cry2:

The winglets often pop up on eBay so look there.
Many of us remove the lower ones to accommodate installing highway pegs on the front crash guards as the winglets put pressure on our legs if they are left in place.

Hi thanks for the reply, I have found two right hand ones on ebay in the US but no lefts, I will keep looking, just can't believe that I did such a stupid thing, of course every time I look at the bike all I can see is the missing one, maybe I should take the right one off for the time being....

I know where your head is at. It is supposed to be there so you wanting there. But I have to repeat what others have said. If you don't have highway pegs on your bike. You will some day and you will be removing the lower wings soon after that. They beat your shins up and get in the way of getting your feet onto the highway legs. Mine have been in a box since I installed the new pegs and have no intentions of putting them back on. If you find one and it makes you feel like your bike is whole again. Great. If you can't find one or have pay an arm and leg for it. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Hi Kirk thank you, that is exactly where my head is, much of my riding is done on rural twisty roads so not much chance of putting my feet up on highway pegs, but I fully understand why people would fit them, for a big old cruiser she's pretty nimble round the bends. Hope to post some pics very soon, cheers guys.

Is there any trick to removing the winglets in a way that doesn't screw up the lower fairing? I'm running into a problem with them pinching into my shins and making it difficult to extend the highway pegs, like krasmu described. Would like to try running without them to see if that cures it.
