That depends on what you consider an arm and leg is worth.wsm 1 wrote:I guess there is no way to get a factory CB any more or it will cost arm and a leg.
I see them out there for $300 to $400.
Some years back they were going for $700ish.
Saw one go on ebay for $1600 back in 03

Re: CB
You may want to look into something like this Midland 75-822 CB with all the controls in an oversized handset. It comes with a cigarette lighter power plug. Not that expensive either. Cobra also makes a model where the handset plugs into a small metal box that could easily be hidden under the faring.

Re: CB
I looked at CB's and went with the Midland 75-822. Found a Voyager XII CB antenna bracket and used a Firestik No-Ground-Plane antenna. Route it all through a SENA SR10 to SENA SMH10 headsets. RAM bracket to mount to the handle bar and use the 12 volt power adapter. Not as seamless as the OEM version, but I hate being tied to cables on the bike. Everything now is bluetooth. And I can use the CB independently from the bike.

Re: CB
Starrider, you must be reading my mind! I bought the Midland 75-822 couple years back after selling my NEW kawasaki CB to Don Medina, I grew so disgusted with trying to make it work with rider-passenger comms, the over priced headsets and cables from Kawasaki, and cb I just pulled it off the bike and sold it. The midland works quite well with the Sena sr device, only problem I had was that it would cut off my wife if a strong CB signal came in, either valid signal or just junk, any signal that would break squelch. I am a licensed ham radio operator, and gave up on CB 20 years ago.
I wish MC manufacturers would instead use FRS or GMRS systems, FM, 5-25 mile range, multi channel etc. And, guess what? you can buy 4 of these for under $100. For a description of GMRS, go here =====> https://www.fcc.gov/general/general-mob ... rvice-gmrs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: CB
I fully agree, a GMRS system for a bike intercom would be ideal. I've used them when traveling in a group in cars and they work great. I've looked and so far I have not found a headset that will plug into a GMRS radio that does not have the goofy "push to talk" mic on the cord.
I currently use a Sena S10 intercom and the noise cancelling on it at highway speed is absolutely superb. I've received calles on it and my wife says it clearer than our hands free in our Buick Enclave.

Re: CB
Well in a few months, winter will be here, and I am planning a radio project where I will be taking my CB put of the bike permanently. If you are interested in the factory CB, let me know.

Re: CB
I have to admit that CB's are outdated and not used as much as they used to be.
BUT if you like to travel in groups a CB is still an essential part of riding .
Maybe a new system is in order ,but for those of us who do not plan on buying a new new bike any time soon , change would have to be ,at least to start , universal and compatible with the older CB .

Re: CB
I see your point, and agree with you, The only reason I have not converted to GMRS is that I don't know anyone who is using it on a bike. I do use 2 meter fm on my bike, for communication and APRS (A form of tracking, APRS = Automatic Packet Reporting System, using GPS satellites for very accurate positioning. You can also check your speed, altitude, and heading with APRS). Lots of off road jeep type people use it so they don't get lost.
2 Meter radios are 50 watts instead of 5 watts like CB, and they are FM instead of AM like CB radios so there is potentially less static and interference. Range is a lot further, and using 2 meter repeaters all over the country, you can theoretically talk coast to coast.
2 meter radios DO require an FCC license, good for 10 years.
BTW, are there any more Hams out there in the AVA?
I think the reason manufacturers have not made the change to GMRS radios is because there are so many bike/CB radios already in service - Also, GMRS is not legal in some foreign countries like Canada and Mexico.
UPDATE:
I stand corrected, Canada DOES allow GMRS: http://www.phillipjboucher.com/QUICKIE% ... ERVICE.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: CB
I remember the days of CB Licensing. My call sign was KKR6370. I would like to have the factory CB but the cost of the radio module and antenna is a tad bit on the outrageous side.

Re: CB
I was there too. Had a Radio Shack TRC24 in my car, a Browning Golden Eagle tube set in my home with a Yaggi beam and a CLR2 ground plane antenna on the house. I remember my call letters too but I am not giving it out because I happen to use it now as a password on some sites. When you get old remembering bunches of passwords is hard.

Re: CB
I will have a CB for sale.
I have a couple of the main CB units and the display units, I may not have all the filters.
I have to get Chris fixed up first then I will get one together and see what I am missing.
Also the CB is nice when you are guiding a ride and other bikes have a CB so you know whats happening behind you.
