My first mechanical problem has arrived.

Post by JohnT »

I backed out of the shed this morning and when I turned the bars the bike quit. One quick internet search and a you tube video duplicated my problem. Out came the switch and wires. No easy task but I did it without removing the triple clamp at all. I removed the very bottom fairing piece, the left side vent by the knees, the little door above it and was able to get the switch unplugged. I then unbolted the switch from underneath and got it all out.
The yellow with red stripe wire showed no flaw in the insulation but it was indeed the wire. So now I will cut a section of wire out and splice a new piece in. I may have to re-route the wires a bit going back together but not a big deal. The big pain will be getting the bolts back in the bottom of the switch I think.
Scars are tattoos with better stories.

Mine did that too, sucks that the wires break and the insulation looks fine, I pulled entire faring off and ended up replacing I think 5 wires, pull on every wire and if you see insulation stretch, its got a good chance wires are broke inside it. Good luck

Do guys still have the tie wrap on the wires at the steering yoke? If you do get rid of it. It will do the same thing to other wires.
