Before I start taking the instrument panel apart, I'll run this by everyone first.
The speed/auto volume on my radio has stopped working. The volume will not increase no matter where I set the auto increase knob. The cruise works just fine and the turn signals are still working most of the time. Sometimes they don't cancel.
I replaced my radio last week with a used one due to my tape player dying and the auto increase was not working on the old radio either. I cleaned all the connectors and applied dialectric grease at that time.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions and advice.

Re: Radio auto volume not working
Check the 2 wire connector from the instruments to the radio. One wire is Blue and the other is Yellow. This loom of wires comes from the speed sensor and carries the AVC signal to the radio.
Page 15-37 of the service manual has a test for the sensor mounted in the meter assembly.
The above can be accomplished with removing the headlight, it's tight to reach but can be done.

I just reread your post and it looks like you have already done my suggestion, so I guess it won't be of much help, sorry about that.

Re: Radio auto volume not working
You were right on with your suggestion to the check the blue/yellow connector. It was not plugged in.
After 13 years and 126k miles, I have no doubt that I left it unplugged as it has not worked for awhile and I'm the only mechanic this bike has ever known.
Thanks for the fast and accurate reply.

Re: Radio auto volume not working
Ok. I'm going to be Capt. Obvious here. After having issues with both radios so far, are you sure you are adjusting the auto volume correctly? The Auto volume control is the small ring behind the right (tone) knob. The ring behind the left (volume) knob is for the intercom volume. Unless you have an intercom, just turn that one all the way CCW and turn it off. Use the ring behind the right (tone) knob to set the volume you want the radio to be at while at speeds above 35mph. Use the volume knob to set the volume you want at stops or below 35 mph.

Re: Radio auto volume not working
As I have discovered many times in the past that a lot of my problems are self inflicted, it was not plugged in.
When I replaced the radio last week, I saw the extra plug hanging there and I assumed that it probably went to the cb.
And we all know what happens when we assume things.
Thanks again
