Final Drive seal special tool part number
Apparently I have a blown seal in my final drive, according to my very qualified wrench...
He said it takes a special tool to do the replacement, does anyone know the part number
so I can Ebay it? TIA Cranky

Something don't sound right, Why did he say it is the seal.
First if these final drives don't have the vent hole on the wheel side of the case drilled out, and they are filled to the threads of the fill. they will leak out. Common problem, but if you leave the level of gear oil 1/4 inch below the fill , you will be fine. Are you seeing the dreaded oil drip on the left side of your foot peg dripping from the u-joint boot ? There's your sign, And the two o-rings on the spline's sleeve must be in great shape and a good water-proof grease used.
As I have mentioned before the pinion shaft bearings are not what most mechanics would think is in there... They are not tapered bearings and cones. but rather one needle bearing with a modified oil feed hole in the race and one ball bearing. So with that in mind there WILL be some play in the input end, Most mechanics would think right off the bat the bearings are shot. they are in fact not.
Your best bet right now is to give Carl Leo a call. Perhaps he can talk to your mechanic and get this all worked out before more is taken apart than needed.
Not knowing how many miles this machine has gone with the u-joint destroyed, and shaking the drive line and pinion shaft half to death I can't tell without seeing myself. I am not saying it could not have damaged things more, but No--one knows this system better than Carl, and rather than open up a can of worms it would be best to get some more advice. The special needle bearing is no where to be had, no way no how.... cheaper solution is to get another final drive off a parts bike. The seal I can't say if it is available, again Carl would know.

Unfortunately this is a final drive I bought off Ebay to try a first shot at the
vibration, at the suggestion of a wrench.... didn't fix the problem and I then
found out my good wrench was doing jobs outta his garage.
He is slow, has heart problems, did have a shop, went on disability and now does a little side
work at his house to make ends meet.....
My good wrench went in to change the U joint / drive shaft and found a lot of
final drive oil. That's when he said the seal and O ring had to be replaced and
that job required a special tool....
The scoot has @65K, the new / Ebay final drive = ?
He can't talk on the phone, very hard of hearing, he does have some wrenches
that worked with him in the past that does his phone work, he is strictly
limited to text messages... his assistant is very good also!
I'll give him these messages tomorrow..... Thanks again!!!!! He commented on the
bearings, like you said!

THAT, of course, was my first thought.... The first wrench - which I've been told
by my good wrench - is very capable also, replaced it, and didn't give me back
the old part... I'll call later, when I know he's there, and see if I can get it... Thanks

It is very possible after the drive shaft and u joint were replaced that you have no problem at all. It is very common that mechanics that do not know this machine to fill the final drive to the threads. This is to much fluid for this machine. I would drain and fill the final drive to 180cc or 6 oz of bell ray hypoid 80w 90 gear lube. Most of us here have learned this the hard way and were taught properly by Carl Leo. A lot of Mechanics tend to be stubborn and don't like to admit when their wrong. I'm one of them. I used to use Ams oil gear lube in my final drive. Went on a very long hot ride to the rally in Arkansas and oil was all over the left side of my bike. Changed out the lube to Belray hypoid adding only 180cc s per Carl Leo's instruction. Didn't take anything apart or do anything else. 50,000 miles later and not a drop of a leak.

Thanks !!!! I believe in 2 things, Michelin and Mobil 1. I have some Mobil 1 syn rear
fluid and will put it in.... I've been running what the wrench put in for a bit for a
"wash out", then I"ll change it.... I use Mobil 15 x 50 in the crankcase......

I have it!!! Now what to do with it? I guess I need to figgure out if the one I have installed
is OK.....
At least I'm on the road and it runs great!!! NOW I can do the rest of the stuff to make
it my scoot, front tire/brakes, fluids, change water pump for leaky oil seal... GETTIN" THERE!!!

FYI Cranky, always always get your old parts back. Oherwise you will never really know that they did the work they say they did. Trust me I have been burned before and it wasn't cheap.

I think you are right on that one!!! To be honest, my repairs on the Kaw's I've
owned have been VERY minimal!!!! Like almost non-existent!
