Air Box Elimination

Hey Family!! I'm finally getting my 1999 Voyager back on the road after my health shut me down for the last two years. I was wondering if anyone has eliminated the Air box in favor of K&N Cones? I have done it on other Kawasaki's gaining measurable increases in mileage & performance. Also I like the cleaned up effect with the glow of my leds.Voyagers however are very temperamental & don't like change :laughing: . Anyone tried it & have results they can share? Thanks

don"t do it, the carbs on the voyager do not take kindly to this modification, these CV carbs want a still air chamber to work efficiently. this can turn in to a tuning nightmare ( ask me how i know!!)....

The Honda CB750's with the DOHC's (1979+) had the same issues: they used Constant Velocity carburetors, and they required a very unique air box, to create the proper air pressure at all speeds; without the OEM air box, you could never get a flat, even, response -- there was always a spot in the RPM range, where it fell... The SOHC Honda's (1969-1978) did not use CV carbs, and they could be made to work beautifully with pod filters. On the CB750 forums, I do not know how many folks spent how much money, trying to tune the carbs to give them decent, even, continuous responses -- they always had a point where the engine faltered, no matter what jets they used, no matter how they tuned them.

Any bike with CV carburetors will suffer this problem, if you remove the OEM air box. They need a very specific air pressure, which only the OEM box can provide. Otherwise, it is down the rabbit hole you go... :!! Cheers!

I also have seen this done ,,,, with very poor results.
