99 voyager 1200 trade?

Post by wano »

I am thinking about trading my 99 concours with just under 43,000 miles for a 99 voyager with just over 73,000 miles it looks ok and seems to run/shift and ride great but the radio don't work and i didn't see any signs of an intercom and i was wanting to know if I should trade or not? It's an even trade. We want a bike so we can ride from London ky to Louisiana and texas for our rally and burn runs.thanks

Sounds like a good trade. Personally I like the color on the '99. If the stock radio is installed the intercom cables could be tucked away if the owner doesn't use it. Any problems with the radio Pete can help you sort it out. I assume you will have plenty of time to sort things out prior to these rides you have planned so shouldn't be a problem. I would take the false tank off and see what it looks like underneath. You can tell a lot from how things look under there. Just your standard maintenance should do the trick if it was taken care of reasonable well. These bikes are pretty straight forward but not many shops want to deal with them. When I bought mine I had a new set of tires mounted by a local shop, the owner/mechanic looked my in the eye and said, "tire change is fine you bring in the wheels, but don't be bring that bike round here for nothing else". At that very moment I realized I was going to become a ZG1200 mechanic. Good luck with your trade, hope it works out cause these bikes are very comfortable for long distance rides. One other thing, if doing a lot of 2up riding you will want to look into some trunk extenders for a little extra room in the back. Who knows maybe that bike already has them. If you can post a few pics.

I don't have anything pleasant to say about price gouging motorcycle shops who either wont work on a bike of a brand they sell or charge you more than the owner of a currently manufactured bike. I take my wheels to Cycle Gear now for some honest tire changing without hassles. They have told me they cant get E3 tires any cheaper than I am ordering them off the net but they have no problem changing the tires out for me. A Voyager taken care of and timely oil changes should be fine with 73,000 miles on it. If it weren't an even trade with the Concours, it would only be worth two grand at most. Voyagers for some reason didn't hold their value like Gold Wings do.

Funny, I traded my 99 Concours for a 95 Voyager. Had I known Voyagers better, I wouldn't have done it. The Conc was in great shape with a lot of add-ons, but I wanted something the wife could possibly ride on. The bike spent a lot of time in the garage after I got it, seems little issues kept cropping up, (and it still has most of the cosmetic issues.) After getting most of these cleared up, I still have a few annoyances but it doesn't stop me from riding it. For the first few months, I didn't enjoy the bike much, it felt under powered and slow compared to the 1000. Then my son needed transportation, so for about a year, he had it. When I got it back, I did some more work to it, mostly just maintenance and clean up. Since July, I've been using it to commute the 16 miles to work. I'm calling it "Fungus" now, as it's growing on me. It's still a bit slow and sluggish compared to the Conc, but it's pretty comfy.

If you did trade for the bike and want a radio that works, Pete Franchi can hook you up, or possibly even me. I had mine done by Pete - the full monty - clock, blue LEDs, and bluetooth module. But I just don't care for using a stereo on a bike like this. I find it annoying when I come up on someone with the stereo blasting so they can hear it, so I don't feel right doing it myself. Also, how can I comment on the loud exhaust crown when my stereo drowns them out? So, at the moment I don't use it, and I'm thinking to just pull the whole thing.
