Howdy all, how important is the little filter in the vacuum advance line? Mine broke and to keep going I put a vacuum tee fitting and capped the open end. Now the bike revs much more freely and feels better than ever.
That little filter is expensive so if not needed then fine. The old filter passed the blow-through test but bike runs better without.
The gal and I are riding to Ruidoso next month and I want to make sure we are GTG. Thank you!

Re: ignition filter
I would venture a guess, that the filter is there to reduce the possibility of gasoline getting in the ignition module As the line going to it is connected to a carburator

Re: ignition filter
I'm still running without the ignition filter and no problems, I would've thought this topic was old news by now.

Re: ignition filter
I am not sure what you are talking about but on other bikes these filters keep oil from backing up the line and getting into areas where it isn't supposed to be. A vaccum line would be a good example.

Re: ignition filter
It may not be a filter at all, but a vacuum delay valve to smooth out pulses and give steadier vacuum to the transducer in the igniter module.
Just a guess.

Re: ignition filter
I think the terminology goes back to the days of pneumatic HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) controls. I haven't pulled mine, so can't say specifically. On autos I've seen similar that are one way valves. Mechanical filters work similar to an electrical filter, i.e. a capacitor in say an electronic power supply.
