I bought the crashed bike
Published date: December 18, 2017
Modified date: December 18, 2017
Location: Missouri, United States
2000 Kawasaki Voyager with clear Salvage title. This motorcycle ran off of I-44 into the median and was abandoned by its owner. It was not totaled by insurance, but to acquire a title for abandoned property in Missouri you can only get a salvage title. Most of the plastics parts are damaged but the core motorcycle appears sound. Will sell parts OR complete motorcycle as is.
$500 takes it all. Might be able to help out with delivery.
I called the guy about the bike and location. He's in the middle of Missouri better know as Misery here in Oklahoma.
He's a nice guy and the bike was "as described". He answered all my questions and didn't sugar coat anything.
I offered to drive the 8 and a half hours one way for $375, he countered with meeting half way for $450.
Sounded good to me, 8 hours less driving for $75 more win win. It has a ton of usable parts.
Like the carbs, I can pull them, rebuild them and do a quick swap with my bike.
Most of the plastic is broken but the chin spoiler is in good shape and I'm missing mine.
Rear speakers/mounts in great shape. It was an enjoyable purchase and he was an interesting person to talk to
as we unloaded the bike.

Re: I bought the crashed bike
Check with Carl Leo before you check any place else for plastic parts. If he cant help you my second guess would be ebay motors. Ebay often has a lot of parts from trashed bikes on it. You don't need to be year specific. All years fit. Just have the bike painted any way you like after you get it together. Good luck.

Re: I bought the crashed bike
Thanks for the info Mr. J. I saw Carl's ad in the classifieds. Looks to have quite the collection. I'm sure I'll need him in the future.
Kawasaki makes a good bike, then they don't mess with after that. That's one of the reasons I'm a Kawasaki fan.
The main reason I bought the parts bike is the ability to remove parts, rebuild them, then it's a quick swap to my main bike.
Or just swap if it's in good shape. Not much down time. Plus it was so close to my house.
I've owned each of these bikes.
KX500 1983 thru 2004 (4)
Concours Gen 1 1986 thru 2007 (2) sold
KLR 650 Gen 1 1987 thru 2007 (1) trade for the Voyager
Voyager XII Gen 1 1986 thru 2003 (2)

Re: I bought the crashed bike
I have owned at least one of all the Japanese brands. My 2001 Voyager is the 2nd Kawasaki I've had. I owned a 2000 ZRX1100 before this. I was impressed with the quality of the ZRX so I had no hesitation owning a Voyager. I a actually considered one back in 2004 when I saw the last of the new ones at a local dealer. I often wish I had. The price was right but I was making monthly payments already on the ZRX so I passed. If you send Carl an email he will call you back. He is good like that.

That looks cool without the plastic. They did a good job around the radiator, tank and rear fender. Well done.823JIM wrote:This was on here last fall. What could be done to one with out the plastic.

Re: I bought the crashed bike
This had to be a wild ride.
This is the coolest trailer, light weight, tracks well, very easy to load a bike, one man operation.
It was abandoned with a spun axle bearing in the drive of a museum my brother worked at.
After a month no one came to claim it so he gave it to me. It has what they call stub axles.
I ground the weld, pulled out the old axle, welded in the new one. Bought a spare wheel and three
tires.....$130 dollar trailer.
