Drain fuel tank

Post by Trdinora »

Hi All, my bike has been sitting for a few months and I'm in Florida with a lot of rain and condensation so I want to drain the fuel tank and put fresh none ethanol gas into it. I tried using a siphon but I can't seem to get the hose to go where it needs to in the tank to get the fuel started coming out. Anyone know where there's a hose or drain underneath that I can pull to drain the tank?

Can pull the side cover and pull the line from tank to filter. Add an extension and drain in a bucket.

Just: turn the tap off, pull the hose from the tap, connect longer hose into gas can, open tap until tank drained - you won't get every last drop out but you'll get most of it (pour old gas into Jeep - that's what I do :-D ).

Whether you drain the gas tank, or not, try adding SeaFoam to your gast tank, per the instructions. It will absorb water, passing it through the engine. I would also suggest adding it to the gas at least once per month, due to the local climate: an ounce of prevention, absorbing any condensed water which may form in the tank. It will also clean your fuel system, and engine. As if that weren't enough, it will also preserve your gasoline for up to 24 months. Been using SeaFoam regularly, in my bikes, and small engines, since 2006. Works as promised. ;-)

In addition, try keeping the gas tank topped off when the bike will sit for more than a week. The air space inside the tank allows water to condense, and drop into the tank, over time. The less air space, the less water condensing into the tank. Cheers!
