I am running an E-4 on the front of my 1200,and am happy with it  ,but I only have 5000 miles on it,so I have no idea on tire life.
How it would compare on the 1700,I do not know :hmm:
It does not like low tire pressure [below 35 lbs],or it can develop a mild low speed wobble.

I run the Dunlop American Elite on my 1700 and have for years. The American Elite is made for the large heavy V-Twin touring motorcycles. But the Elite 4 looks just as nice and they say handles very good in the rain. Either of these tires will mike your 1700 feel and ride wonderful, which ever tire you choose please keep us posted
