FUEL ISSUE

This is what's going on. after a long trip I decided to do a tune up on the bike basically the air filter and plugs and oil change. the reason for it was I didn't know how long it had been since it was done before I got the bike. Everything went good no problem until I tried to start it. I'm getting fire but no fuel and since I don't really know that much about this bike yet I cant find the fuel pump and filter. I'm at a lose. my old v-twin I could tear apart and put it back together but this one has got me stumped. any help we be greatly appreciated

Fuel pump is to the rear of the engine. Remove coolant bottle and carb overflow bottle on left side behind triangle chrome cover. The pump is a round cylinder shape and has a habit of the points sticking which can be repaired INFO on this repair is in" Tech Tips forum". filter is right next to the pump. Napa has a pump that will work inplace of the Kaw one. filter also can be bought non oem also. Check Tech tips and listing for alternative parts.

TIP: Sometimes!! just tapping the pump will release the sticking points.
TIP: pump can be viewed easier if both the chrome covers on each side of the engine are removed and easier to get at , ALSO find a Hemostat to pinch off the fuel line to work in this area..

the easiest way to check if it is working is to activate it without the engine turning over, so you can hear it pump and shut off once the floats halt the flow. to do that , follow the positive battery cable down about 4 to 6 inch's to the starter solenoid . Now remove the plug with the two smaller wires from the solenoid, key on , run on, and depress the start button. the pump should run and stop once the bowls are filled. Even my large hands can fit along the inside of the left fairing to remove and install that plug. It may not be the points if the fuel filter has never / ever been changed, and the pump may just be stuck. With a good mechanical set of hands the job does not require removing the rear frame and fuel tank to replace either the pump or the filter. Keep us posted

Hello from NJ again. after sitting here this morning looking at this post again , I have to ask, while you did the oil-change - plug rpl - and air filter. Did you drain the carbs. Seems to me it should have at the least started up and run on what fuel was in the carbs for a brief time. How is it your sure there is a no/fuel issue. Did it not want to light off at all ?
Well do what I told you with the starter solenoid and open the drain screws on the bottom of bowls. See what you get and let us know.
