1999 VOYAGER XII OD INDICATOR LIGHT

Post by luckymrg »

FIRST TIME USER:

1) STORED BIKE INDOORS FOR WINTER, BROUGHT OUT FOR EARLY SPRING RIDE, NO SPEEDOMETER. TURNED OUT TO BE HOUSING AT FRONT WHEEL. THRILLED TO GET FIXED 2) TAKE IN SHOP FOR OIL & FILTER CHANGE, COOLANT FLUSH. 3) WITHIN ONE DAY NOTICE NO FIFTH GEAR INDICATOR LIGHT.
3) TOOK BACK TO SHOP, CHECKED PLUG UNDER TANK ETC.

4) NO LIGHT. SO NO CRUISE CONTROL. TECH STATED THEY WOULD HAVE TO START TRACING DOWN WIRING. SOUNDS LIKE $$$$$$$ TO ME? CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT CRUISE!! ANY SYNAPSES? 45,000 MILES.

PS CRUISE "ON" LIGHT WORKS ON TANK. NEUTRAL LIGHT WORKS.

Be sure that the switch on the clutch lever, front brake and rear brake are working properly. I have had the issue when the Cruse on, lights up but unable to set the Cruse and that is when the second light on the tank won't light. Turned out to be the switch on the clutch wasn't working properly

Did it cause your OD Light on the dash to stop lighting up when in fifth Gear?

If it's just for the cruise control, there are threads here about disabling that "cancel circuit" check. I mean, the mod lets you engage cruise control whether you're in OD or any other gear. It's a swell mod.

But I also get a lot of use out of the OD light. I'd fix that, either way.

PS. Please don't shout at me with ALL CAPS.

Yes it has to be in the area of the OD light circuit and I do believe it is located as Chevyman indicated. One other thought. I'm not 100% on this but I think I remember something about if the ODS light bulb is burnt out, the circuit will not be closed and not allow the cruise to function. Yes, all the other switches in the system need to be functioning properly for the cruise to work. One bad switch in that entire system will shut cruise down. However, none of those other switches have any effect on the OD light. You have to get that light and system functioning. I've been where you're at and it just takes time and patients. You'll get it. just start eliminating one switch and system at a time.

No it would still light up. If it is not logging up could be a couple of things . Burnt out bulb but it should still engage Cruse. The sending unit on the gear position sensor has soming wrong with it or there is no power coming from it

Again, you can ground the OD sensor at the cruise control module. This could be a diagnostic: see whether that allows the cruise to work (thus identifying a bad OD switch); and/or a permanent mod that allows cruise even in 4th or whatever. Either way, you win.
