NOT a Voyager - Tach Repair

Post by MartinKemp »

Hi, I don't know who else to ask, so I will as you. I have a 98 Yamaha Virago XV1100. The tachometer quit. I've called around locally (Calgary, Alberta) & searched the internet and I cannot find anyone that tests / repairs tachometer heads. Anybody know a guy??

Couple pictures here of what it looks like.

Bunch of used ones on eBay - probably cheaper than having someone take a look at it (let alone fix it).

Tach's are typically unique in design/interface to the engine. On newer bikes, they use electronic pulses, so aftermarket Tach's can be used, though they may need to be programmed. I believe a 1998 tach will be mechanical.

Your best option is to contact a dealer, and inquire about it. Other than that, as already stated, buy a used unit off of e-Bay, or other source for used parts, and swap it out. You can also try places like Bike Bandit, to see if it is available (extremely doubtful!). and to get an idea of what a new OEM tach would/should cost. Cheers!
