Hi from thhe UK

Post by ted1r »

Hello all My name is Nigel and I live on the East coast of the UK ,i have been a biker all my life using only Kawasaki's
I have a 1200 voyager from 1990 when it was imported from the US also I have KE 250 which came in to the UK this year,
I tend use imports as the styles you have are much nicer than the UK spec machines.

Over the years I have had 3 police Kawasaki's

I dont think I will ever get to ride in the USA ,but I can only dream

Regards Nigel

Hi Nigel, welcome! I love the paint job on the Voyager, did you do or design that yourself?

Nigel;
Welcome from Canada. The handlebars look different on the Voyager. Are they "ape hanger" style?

Did you ever get your feet stuck under those low saddlebags? I had a '75 (naked) Goldwing to which I added low bags like that, but then had to be careful not to run over myself.

Transportation Safety Administration. They're in charge of security at US airports and other transportation facilities.

Deep Thoughts wrote: Fri Sep 15, 2023 8:19 pm Greetings Nigel!

I am rather fond of the green paint scheme as well.

Regarding a potential visit to America; one thing is for certain, once you have experienced the frighteningly high speeds one can attain on the US interstate system, you may never get that thrill out of your system. You will surely find yourself longing for wide open six lane superslabs when you've returned home.

Have you considered an extended vacation here and buying a cheap Voyager while in country? Ride the devil out of it, go to the Blairsville rally, then sell it before you return home. That would be cheaper than shipping yours here, and would keep the pesky TSA from escorting you to a cold, dimly lit room upon arrival!

Cheers!
Unless you are really into speed I would stay off the freeways. As a US comentator once said, " now that the freeway system has been completed you can travel from coast to coast and never see anything". We have traveled from coast to coast over the past 20 years and have done 99.9% of it on the old two lane highways. You meet the most interesting people and get to really enjoy the scenery and see rural America as it really is. Welcome to the AVA site, John anad Mary Jane

We have Border Patrol, too, which is part of what used to be called INS - Immigration and Naturalization Service, until we became so hostile to foreigners and immigration now it's Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, which is another department of the Department of Homeland Security. TSA is another part of DHS, as is the Coast Guard (which is now considered an Armed Service, whilst before 9/11 is was considered a Civil department).

Before the end of WW2, we had a War Department, which was in charge of our armed forces, which were concerned with the defense of our country. Unless we were actually at war, our armed forces were pretty small. Since the end of WW2, the War Department became the Department of Defense, because it didn't sound so war-like. Because of the Communist threat, our Department of Defense (which was in charge of the defense of our country) has maintaned a fairly large military. Actually it's pretty damned big, and very expensive.

Since 9/11, we now have the security/defense of our country being in charge of the DHS - Department of Homeland Security, whilst our Department of Defense is apparently in charge of sticking our collective noses into everybody's business around the world, er, I mean protecting America's interests abroad <cough>.

So, before 9/11, we had the Border Patrol protecting our land borders. We had the Coast Guard protecting our waterways and coastlines. We still have both, but they are now part of a HUGE new bureaucracy - the DHS, which is now, by far, the largest government department. And we still have a huge military.

Oh, and we of course still have our Air Force protecting our skies, and now we have a spankin' new, sparkly new armed service, the Space Force!

Oh boy, that explanation got long. Sorry about that.
