Wiring headache

Post by MonsterMash479 »

:bat: previous owner installes a bunch of bs leds around my bike and im currently in the process of stripping it down to return the harness to original spec, does anyone know what this wire would feed and why there is a resistor wired into it? It was wired to the positive battery post.

Just a quick guess but it could be they replaced the lead acid battery with a sealed battery and that was to shut off the light on the dash for the batter (low on water indicator)!
Again, just a quick guess on my part.

To further explain the concept, the wire you show would go to any 12V + terminal, should there be no provision on the battery for a low electrolyte sensor to mount in, and that would keep the battery light off.
The battery light illuminates with low electrolyte OR no place to install the sensor. That is why the bypass you have in your hand is used to keep the light off.

You can also remove the bulb, but that rather assumes you have another good reason to excavate it. Like, say, replacing the dash lights with LEDs. (I have another post somewhere about replacing this idiot light with a functionally-similar voltage meter, a clever unit the size of a bulb.)
