Securing the radio bezel

Post by Steve in Sunny Fla »

Apparently radio bezels are a problem on these bikes - I had a problem with the one for my bike not wanting to "hook" on the right side. Here's how I fixed it ...
Using Permatex 5 minute plastic epoxy (great stuff) I built up the left and right snap locks by building up the backside of them with a pretty good sized support made of the plastic weld. Of course I cleaned the area with acetone forst for maximum bond. When I installed the bezel, I first placed a thin .010" shim between the radio and the snap, then pushed the bezel in. When I removed the shim, the snaps locked solidly in place. I haven't put any miles on it yet, but it sure seems like it's on there as solidly as I could ever hope for. HTH, Steve

What part are you referring to when you say bezel?? is it the cover - (from the Kaw parts diagram website): 14024B 14024-1203 COVER,TUNER ? I've had mine pop off on the interstate when hitting a pothole....

Grumpy, the 14024D....14024-1326 bezel (it's called a cover on the diagram) is what your 14024B snaps onto.

Thanks Chris. I'd removed that bezel once - and made a mental note about the tiny prongs that hold it in place (hummm, I'm a little foggy on that already!), but it stays put on my XII, but the "outer"cover wants to pop off occasionally. Garry Dick up here did a neat 'mod' on his - he fitted a window into it so that he could see the clock/dial face, and fitted a push-button too, allowing him to leave the cover on pretty much year 'round. For whatever reason, his cover was always tight.
