My 94 XII has developed an engine knock. Or, at least what I think might be an engine knock. Not being a mechanic nor very mechanically inclined, it's hard to explain.
It's most pronounced right around 30 mph in 3rd gear. It sounds as though it's coming from the right side of the engine. I checked the oil and it appeared to be low (bottom of the sight glass) so I added about 1/4 qt. and that seemed to quiet things down a bit. This is not a lifter tick. Sounds changes with increase or decrease of the throttle and almost disappears when the clutch is pulled. It's still there though under the "normal" engine noise.
I've had the guys at the local Kaw Shop look and listen to it, but they haven't ridden the bike to really hear the noise. They tell me it's all in my head and the noises are "normal" engine and transmission noise. I don't think so. But not knowing and not wanting to get stuck with a blown engine or broken rod, well, let's say I would not be a happy camper.
Any one with some ideas or relative experience? Oil and Filter were changed about 3 weeks ago. No leaks that I can find.

Did you drain front and rear engine cases? There are two drains, over filling causes the oil to foam, this puts air under the hydrolic lifter. If you put 4 qts in then you should have 5 quarts in by estimates. That is not pulling the front plug. Experience been there , done that.

Thanks Dave.
I'll be looking at this when I replace the inlet O rings. I'll most likely change the oil then as well. I just changed it not to long ago (Actually the mechanic did) and may not have done this.
Another note, after talking with Carl on the phone, he thought maybe the Carbs weren't synced well or had dropped their sync. We'll be re-syncing this as well.
All sorts of little goodies going to happen in the next couple of weeks!
