We got back home from the winter getaway last week, did all the catchup work around the house, caught up with the family and all the medical stuff, and finally got around to installing the backrest. Easy installation, less than an hour, with clear instructions. Today at last I got to try it for about fifty miles. I'm standing now, as I can't sit down after kicking myself for going so long without a backrest. Congratulations to Utopia Products for manufacturing a truly high quality product. Their attention to detail is incredible, they even check that the pattern of stitching is correct, matching the year of your bike. It's so rare to find a manufacturer of this quality anymore. I would thoroughly recommend this product to anyone.

Re: Utopia Backrest
Everyone I ever talked to praises the Utopia. I hear from passengers that it is more comfortable for their legs too. I never had the nerve to do the surgery on the seat.
When we had the XII we made do with a Harrison Specialties bolt on backrest (which I don't think is made anymore) and I gave Marcia a pair of the passenger pegs that Marvellas made (still in business under new management but I hear Marv helps out a little).
Wheather anyone owns a XII or a 1700 I recommend they also look at Marvellas products. They have done quite a bit for the AVA too.

Re: Utopia Backrest
Honestly, if I had never gotten the Utopia backrest some time ago I literally would no longer be riding anything. This is the greatest improvement I ever made outside the progressive springs all around on the Voyager. I literally love riding it now with the improvements.

Re: Utopia Backrest
Dorothy hasn't tried it sitting back there yet. (The weather has closed us down again - looks like a week or more of Yuk). She's quite petite, but if she feels cramped I will be order a trunk extender right away. Thanks for the link to Marvellas.

Re: Utopia Backrest
Backrest, Jim happy camper, trunk extenders, Lori happy campette. Next to progressive front and rear, best thing done. (Hint) the ladies really like the little purse on the back of backrest.

Re: Utopia Backrest
..... Gene, order the trunk extenders ! my wife is also petite, To her credit , she gave it a good try, but after the backrest is installed there is no space back there.
