Heel-Toe shifter

Available on ebay is a Voyager heel/toe shifter. I bought one and installed it today. Easy to install and works nicely. Here's the link on eBay:

I remember seeing a heel-toe shifter from someone else that was very similar to this one. Only it was made to use u-bolts to fasten to the stock shifter. No drilling required.

Now I need to do a heel toe on my XII, my Nomad has one so when I switch bikes back and forth I get really confused But come to think of it, it don't really take much to do that.

I used to have a heel and toe shifter on an Intruder 1500 we used to have. It didn't take long to get used to it and it was certainly a good idea if you wanted to keep a shine on the toe of your left boot.

The shifting process can maybe one full second longer the more conventional shifting methods (as you line up you heel for the upshift). Unless you have a rather large flywheel to keep momentum between shifts it does noticeably slow you down which can annoy your riding buddies or potentially put you into an unsafe condition between you and the cage behind you.

I think heel toe shifting is a good idea for the 1700 but maybe not so much for a XII and anyone who rides sporty, shifts a lot, and wants lots of power at all times. Your results may vary.

I have his type of heel shifter, this is the third one on my bike and by far the best.
I purchased mine thru Carl Leo who sent it out and had it chromed and picked up
chrome peg for it. It feels solid when shifting, and with the shifter cover on the stock
shifter it raises it so its easier to find with to toe for downshifts. Once you ride with
this one, well you'll see what I mean.

I also bought one from Carl, and I'm happy with it. I got used to the heel and toe action on my Vulcan, and found I liked it better. Just a caution though, check the tightness of the bolts holding it to the original shifter occasionally. On a recent long trip, I found that the bolts had loosened, and tightening them at the side of the road took a while as the floorboards and shifter had to come off to get a good grip on the nuts.

just a tip. if you will drill and tap the center of the shift shaft to 6mm and put a large washer behind the bolt you put in the tapped hole it will prevent the lever from working loose..........carl
