Wooden Bead seat covers

Post by Okie34 »

Who's using the wood? What do you love/hate about them and why?

Thanks!

I tried them a long time ago and they worked ok. Just did not like the raise in height (bout 3/4") and WOOD is still HARD!! but it lets air circulate and kinda forms to you and when it rains your boys don't get wet!! I have been using a thin fake sheepskin for years and that works for me, very cheap at fabric store just tucks in around the seat.. I have also used a gel pad under the sheepskin, bout 1/4" thick, that you can buy in one of those health mags that you heat up wrap around your neck or shoulder and has velcro on it so you can use it in different parts of the body. It is kinda heart shaped and fits on the seat perfectly with a open spot for your tail bone only about $12.00. Works for me on those 900mi days..

I've tried a number of solutions and found that what works for others does not necessarily work for me. What does work for me is a 2 piece solution consisting of an Airhawk inflatable seat cushion which you can get on Amazon for around $77. On top of the Airhawk I put a sheepskin cushion custom cut for your bike at Alaskan Leather and they sell for about $79. I've done a 3 week, 7,000 mile trip with no soreness. On the bare seat I was getting sore after a couple of hours in the saddle.

Have the wood ones on the Voyager. Like them a lot. The air flow beneath feels like water running down your butt. Sounds funny but feels good. Just splurged and bought the wife the ceramic ones for her Spyder. She likes them a lot also. A friend has the wood ones and the paint comes off after a while. Mine haven't done that yet and have used them for 2 summer seasons. The ceramic ones should take care of that.

I did a test ride with some and felt like I was not planted in the seat. Same with the sit on top gel pads. I use a genuine long hair (one piece) sheepskin pelt that is sold at a rug. Just one strap to keep it in place when off the bike. I do store it when riding in the rain though.

Waste of money, if you want to end sore butt problems for good, get a Russell Day long seat. Spendy, but sooooooooooo worth it.

Five years about 40,000 miles, including first Iron Butt last month. I use them and really like them. Cool and dry. Inexpensive. friends that I've recommended them to are happy with them also.
