Just picked up a 1996 voyager xii in sept, was wondering what the tenth anniversary had different if anything at all? Love the bike so far.

A 10th anniversary sticker on the faux tank. :-? . . . And paint subject to fading in the sun. Keep it in the garage (or covered) when not riding and keep a good coat of wax with UV inhibitors on it. Other year Voyagers don't seem to have this problem, but that red on the '96 and '97s. . . .

Btw Richard, welcome to the forum! You will continually be amazed at how good these bikes are.

They came with a free CB from Makaw , many dealers did not install them, but that is something that was supposed to come with them. Paint is notorious for fading on these models.

Also be aware that the Voyager XII has TWO oil drain plugs. You MUST drain from both when changing the oil to get all of the oil out. If you don't, you will end up with too much oil in the engine which will cause leaks. Many motorcycle "mechanics" don't even know this! The second drain plug is on the right side near the front. Can't see it if you are working from the left side of the bike. The two drain plugs and the filter are all 17mm, and the only 17mm bolts under the engine.

All Voyager colors are not subject to severe fading. Red is one of those colors that is more susceptible to sun fading. It has to do with the color, not the paint or bike, and of course to exposure to the sun.

It's true that red is generally more susceptible to fading but interestingly the red of the '01 and '02 models does not seem be susceptible to fading like the '96 & '97. . . :hmm:

I believe the '01 and '02 red was more of a maroon though instead of the more red red of the '96's, therefore the darker red would be a little less prone to fading.

My 86 wasn't faded at all, but it was more of a Red with a hint of Darker red , a splash of maroon and maybe a little dash of cherry in it that kept it from fading. The red paint used on the 96 and 97's was suspect and faded badly as compared to other reds used on bikes from 97 (Patriot Red Pearl ) which is a red red from HD hasn't faded much, during this time period. But as Sammy Hagar says,,,,,"Red Red I want Red , some want Blue but I want Red"..

FYI
The CB Appeared free, I think there was a significant price jump that year.

That year Voyager has always had a special attraction for me. Maybe someday I will find the right one. Enjoy and above all, ride safe.
