MY WIFE FELL OFF THE BACK!!!
Alright, she really didn't fall off, but I love her and would like to keep her from doing so . First off, I am a rookie here. I just purchased a 1994 Voyager XII from a gentleman in Louisville, KY and I am loving it.
I have searched this forum as well as some others but haven't found a topic regarding how much movement is allowable of the rear trunk passenger area. My trunk wiggles slightly and I didn't know if this is normal or not. I am assuming it is from the track that the trunk follows to allow for passenger preference. I got out the flashlight and this seems to be the case. I also tightened the interior nuts and bolts. The two nuts closest to the passenger actually clicked once kind of like a torque wrench will do at the top of the desired tolerance. Is this okay as well?
Thanks in advance for answering my questions; sorry if this has been covered else where.

Re: MY WIFE FELL OFF THE BACK!!!
Yes it's normal. My 95 trunk also wiggles. It's because of the sliding feature. Since I never adjust my trunk I tightened the bolts so it wiggles less. That means it won't let slide but I don't care.

Re: MY WIFE FELL OFF THE BACK!!!
You can also get trunk extenders and move it up to 3 inches back to give her even more room, my wife has never fell off but she did fall asleep once on a long ride, guess she is comfy with my riding skills. lol

Re: MY WIFE FELL OFF THE BACK!!!
yeah I've looked at those extenders. I'm 6'4" at 240 lbs and my wife is 5'2" (weight withheld out of fear she will sense me sharing it...BIG TROUBLE). So she is tiny, not sure she could use it but we haven't ridden together yet so I'm prepared to hear all about how I can make her life more comfortable aboard the bike...lol.

Re: MY WIFE FELL OFF THE BACK!!!
Guys please note that the trunk should not wiggle much at all. In fact it should be quite tight. When I got my Voyager XII used I found out by accident that at one point the trunk had been removed. The nylon guides (p/n 13070) that allow the trunk to slide on the track were missing. The bolts which mount the trunk to mounting bracket are mounted with the threads up with the nut inside the trunk. Vibration and time can cause these bolts to loosen and fall out. If that happens the nylon guides and their collars that fit over the bolts will be gone. The trunk will never tighten down after that unless those nylon guides along with the metal collars (p/n 92027) are replaced. They can still be ordered new so don't go without them.

Re: MY WIFE FELL OFF THE BACK!!!
There was always some movement in my trunk, but it seemed to me that the movement became more noticeable after I installed trunk extenders. The bolts were tight, and the nylon bushings and collars were in place. I thought the movement may have been caused by wear in the slotted rack mechanism that controls the trunk position. Since I always leave the trunk in its most rearward position, I installed a large bolt in each track to prevent any fore and aft movement. This seems like a pretty crude approach, and I'm not sure it addresses the actual cause of the problem, but it seems to stopped the movement.

Re: MY WIFE FELL OFF THE BACK!!!
I should mention that my trunk does not wiggle a whole lot, not enough to make you fear it will break and fall off. Just some. I've had two XIIs and both were the same, and all parts were/are there. In fact, the saddle bags wiggle some also. And the side covers. The XIIs were built to a [comparatively low] price point and I think fit and finish suffered as a result. But, dang!, these bikes run good and handle well!

Re: MY WIFE FELL OFF THE BACK!!!
My wife actually did fall off the back..(of a snowmobile)...Fortunately, she was not hurt, but unfortunately I continued on the trail for a few more miles before I noticed (that was her first and last time on a snomobile with me) ...
