New helmet/communications question

Post by Muleears »

I probably should get a new helmet to go along with my new-to-me 1200. My question is, and I don't mean to start an argument, what is the best setup to just be able to talk on my smartphone? I'm not looking to talk to passengers, CB or anyone else, just my phone! I'm looking at a Nolan helmet (N-90) which is very nice, says it is com ready but requires the purchase of another $200+ worth of com equipment. Another helmet (a GLX) doesn't seem to be as nice a helmet but comes with bluetooth capability installed. The GLX is more than the Nolan initially but doesn't require the additional $200 in com stuff, so overall is cheaper. What do you guys suggest if I just want to be able to answer my phone while riding? If this has been discussed please point me in the right direction!

If you have a Cycle Gear nearby, they have a couple of helmets under $200. with
the Bluetooth already installed one full faced and one modular. You can buy them online also, but I have found that helmets aren't always the size they are advertised to be, like to be able to try em on. Seem to be good helmets...

Thanks Tom, I'll check them out. I really like the features of the Nolan helmet but I'm not crazy about laying out almost $400 to do what I want to do. The GLX has the capability but is a thermoplastic shell not a polycarbonate. Just too many variables! Thanks for the input, I'll keep looking.

I have used both the Torx and Oneal BLINC III helmets with built in bluetooth.. BUT be aware, Bluetooth phone conversations are quieter that bluetooth music playback so you have to slow down to below 50 ;-)

The Nolan Bluetooth option is great and you may want to contact NEAL on these forums to see what he suggests.

Cheers,
