The infamous "10 plug"
Reading and searching past posts led me to the 10 plug. (Intermittent losing of everything except radio) Problem is my 10 plug appears to be buried. Doesn't appear to be much play at all. Appears much of the cables around it are zip tied in place, which is probably why the 10 plug is so buried. I didn't want to start cutting ties and pulling anything unnecessarily.
Any suggestions as to how I can access the plug would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

Re: The infamous "10 plug"
Get yourself some Tuner Cleaner, and dielectric grease, from Radio Shack. Cut the zip-ties, pull the connectors apart, one-by-one; clean them with the Tuner Cleaner aerosol spray; apply dielectric grease to the pins on one side only, then reconnect the plugs; use Velcro to bundle the wires, if desired, however, be certain to leave it a little loose -- overly tight bundling led to your problems in the first place. Repeat on all connectors throughout the bike...
The Tuner Cleaner will clean the contacts, leaving no residue whatsoever. The dielectric grease will seal them against moisture and corrosion, while lubricating them as they slide in place. By doing this to all connectors, throughout the bike, you avoid future corrosion issues -- cheap insurance. Cheers!

Re: The infamous "10 plug"
All set with the dielectric, electronic cleaner, and managed to give myself a very small area of the plug to grab.
Only problem is I've just spent more time than I care to admit (let's put it this way, I had to reapply sunscreen because I was starting to burn)trying to get the dang plug apart. Can barely grip the two side bars to push in the plugs as it is, much less get a good grip on the upper half in order to pull, or even pry apart.
Sprayed electronic cleaner down exposed side. No avail.
Of course, the plugs been in place almost 30 years on my '86, so I'm not totally surprised it's being stubborn.
my fingers just can't get in there to get a good grip.
I was hesitant about taking off windshield, lower fairing, and upper fairing.
Little did I realize that was the easy part.
Any ideas or suggestions would sure be appreciated.

Re: The infamous "10 plug"
If you unbolt the fuse block you should be able to pull the wire out so you can get to the plug better.
When you are finished and reassemble the plug you should put a wire tie around the center to keep the plug tight.
