hole in the airbox
I'm going to go for broke here,
I see a hole in the airbox with a grommet in, I see nothing to plug into that hole.
What is supposed to b there?

Re: hole in the airbox
the "Clean Air System" starts there with a rubber pipe which comes from inside the airbox, through the rubber grommet and leads to a cylindrical "muffler", then another rubber pipe which goes to the vacuum valve. From the vacuum valve 2 rubber pipes go to the 2 reed valve covers, 1 on each side of the top of the cylinder head cover.
If you do not have the system, plug this hole as it is downstream from the air filter element and may allow dirt and/or contaminants to enter the cylinders.

Re: hole in the airbox
The hole should be on the RH side. But if you have a California emissions bike, I believe there is another hole on the LH side. If that setup has been removed, someone may have forgot to plug that hole.

Re: hole in the airbox
FYI, an auto parts store should have rubber grommets of a size that will fit that hole.

Re: hole in the airbox
Talking about the air box is there any aftermarket air filters to do away with stock air filter box sort of like used to be used on the old Honda 750 - 4cyl. The rubber on mine doesn't want to cooperate any more.

Re: hole in the airbox
Very few have tried 4 small cone filters. Most find that the OEM intake setup works the best.

Re: hole in the airbox
The Honda DOHC 750's used Constant Velocity carb's... It is pretty much impossible to make pod filters work on CV carb's. If the Voyager has CV carb's, don't waste your time, or money (copious amounts of both!). The OEM air box, on the DOHC 750's, were built to supply the correct pressure/vacuum required by the CV carb's, to work properly. On the earlier 750's, with non-CV carb's, pod filters would work just fine.
Ask Carl Leo about whether pod filters would work, or not, on the Voyager XII. He would know for certain. Cheers!

Re: hole in the airbox
The Voyager XII has CV carbs on her. VM carbs were used on older kawasaki and Suzuki bikes of the 70's.

The grommet is there, just need a plug. Or duct-tape.Mr Jensee wrote:FYI, an auto parts store should have rubber grommets of a size that will fit that hole.

Re: hole in the airbox
I tried experimenting with cone filters on the carbs, don't even try it.
The only thing I may try is to 3d print a custom intake manifold that is roughly the same shape and leads to a CAI style filter that fits in the same place under the faux tank.
