Just upgraded to Windows 10

Post by Mr Jensee »

I can't say I am impressed yet. The mail feature sucks. I use Hotmail and it will not let you view more than a few emails. I have to go to the new Edge browser and then type in Outlook.com to see them as I used to. I had to reinstall some programs that I already paid for including my antivirus because the programs either did not work or gave me basic operation. Gone is Windows Media Center so you will need a 3rd party software to view your movies. Bill Gates could you PLEASE JUST STOP SCREWING WITH OUR COMPUTERS??? You are not improving anything.

I also upgraded one of my units to see if I liked it. So far I think it stinks. Just remember you have 30 days to revert back to your previous operating system for no charge. After that you will have to pay unless you have a copy of the previous operating system.

Thanks for the tips.
I recently bought a new laptop from QVC with a free upgrade to Windows 10.
Now I know NOT to install it .
My old laptop is running Windows Vista so I thought it was time to update it .

I myself like windows 7 the best.
I use 7 at work, have windows 8 at home for over a year seems to work okay, it's adapting to the interface that takes getting used to.

I'll stick with windows 7 for as long as I can. It usually takes a few years before new systems have the bugs out of it.

I haven't read anywhere that after 30 days it will cost me. I am willing to put up the entire restructuring of my programs for a free operating system but Gates actually wants us to pay for all this grief 30 days from now? I have (had) 3 Windows 7 computers and I really don't need to be hit with buying another operating system for each of them right now. I have enough expenses to contend with. From what I read was that Microsoft was going to make more money off program vendors and updates later than they would have made rolling out another system. I used to love computers. I used to build them and troubleshoot them all the time in the XP days. Now I find I can't even find where to remove unwanted programs. I feel like I did back in the Win 3.1 days again but now I am too old to care. :tho:

I don't think Bill works at Microsoft anymore. He made enough to retire :-D

You can update most computers for free, you have 30 days to decide to keep the new operating system or revert to your old OS. After 30 days, the backup file of your old OS should delete, which means if you decide to go back to your old OS after the 30 day mark you would either have to buy a copy or use a copy you already have.

Also, if you upgrade to 10, then reload your old OS, then LATER decide to go back to 10 again, you would have to purchase a copy of 10. I was told that Microsoft records your registration number when you do the free upgrade so you can't "free" upgrade again (haven't seen proof of this yet though).

Also be aware, after upgrading to 10, the software is set to use its self for file sharing. In other words, when your upgrading to version 10, you actually get parts of the software from other people that have already installed version 10. So after you have it installed.. other people will get parts of the software from you. There is a way to shut it off, but you will have to look it up on the internet, as I haven't upgraded yet.

Its something to keep in mind if you have a limited amount of upload or download amounts.

I finally have all three computers, one desktop and two laptops upgraded to 10. So far after having to reinstall my antivirus software which I paid for and install patches for a couple more everything seems to work fine. I like the new Edge browser. So far it is loads ten times faster with less bugs than does Explorer. I am not having any major issues other than the fact that it took a month to get the download files for one laptop. I will let everyone know when I have more issues. All my computers were backed up on outside drives so if I have issues I think I can revert back.

Sounds like others are also tired of the micromoney schemes. Get rid of ALL the bull and just load a good linux OS...Ubuntu, Mint, and many others work perfectly. :hpdc:

Just upgraded my 8yr old HP Vista desktop for a new (made in July 2015) Dell one that came with Windows 10.

So far so good I guess. It and the new Edge browser are "familiar enough" to do basic navigation without help. And since my PC needs are pretty simple they should serve me well.\

No complaints to date.

Totally displeased with MS (rimes with BS).
I am old school Microsoft certified (2001) on W2000.
I have been playing the old Medal of Honor original games since 2003 (a reward to myself for surviving my year in the middle east ('01 to '02).
It played on Windows 7 until today. I sortof messed up and let my laptop get upgraded to Windows 10, and I have a HP that came with Win8 (upgraded to 8.1). My EA game worked, but in a window, not full screen on the Win8.1. I fully removed and reinstalled on my laptop but it won't do anything when I try to start the game. Funny, EA's MOH Airborne runs on Win 10, both machines.
Anyway, at 3am, Microsoft forced an update on my Windows 7 Pro machine, that i play on breaks (i am at work from 8am to 10pm, so i get a couple of long breaks, and I am in charge) and now it does the same as the Win 10 machines. :tho: :cry2:
I am just now doing the rollback to before that update and I will see if that helps. I don't know if the fact is that that program runs a DOS in the background starting up has anything to do with it.
Anyway, just saying that I figure I will have to get used to Windows 10 on the one machine, and was rolling my laptop back, but now do I have to face the loss of this program to the corporate mindset at MS.
Update: I did the rollback and the program is now usable. Now I get to play "try a few at a time" to figure out which update messed it up.
Just sayin, and thanks for listening,
Ken

I know your game is old but have you checked their website to see if they have a patch for Win 10? That is what I had to do for my Cyberlink programs that wouldn't run after the upgrade.
