floor boards
I own a 2002 Voyager 1200, i see a set of driver floor boards on line i might get. It comes with a heel and toe shifter. Has anyone tried these out yet? and are they a good fit?

Re: floor boards
Drivers floor boards have been around quite a while. But it is like choosing a pair of shoes; you either like them or hate them.
I had a set on my bike when I bought it, they fit well, worked well and looked good. Just not my cup of tea.

Re: floor boards
Have floor boards as well as boards on the engine guards. Allows me infinate places to put my feet. I often put my toes on the engine guard boards and heels on the floor boards. They took a little getting used to, especially the right side as you have to put your heel on a rest to use the brake, however they work great for me. Some folks love'm, some folks hate'm. Good luck on your decision.............Gator Mike

Re: floor boards
If I were you, I'd do a little research on the heel/toe shifter. From what I hear, shifting with the heel applies a bit more pressure and people have ended up with bent shifting forks. I have floor boards but only the toe shifter so I can't speak first hand on whether or not this is the case.
I do however like the floorboards. Like Gene said, they are a matter of personal preference.

Re: floor boards
When I test rode my bike it had floorboards and that heal peg for the brake lever. As these bikes are a little cramped with the high foot postion anyway, I was not able to get my foot up onto the brake foot rest peg without cramps in my groins. I am 5-10. I loved the floor boards but didn't care for that brake peg thing. As part of the deal I had them swap out the entire set up for a standard foot peg system off another bike they had on the lot.

Re: floor boards
I have floorboards and they work well for me, They do take a little getting use to
The thing to watch for is the earlier sets have a heal toe shifter with flat tabs welded on the later ones have round pins/pegs threaded in, you want the ones with the pins threaded in.
They seem to fit better and you can modify them if desired because they are a little cramped.
I made an extension for mine that moves the back pin farther back and down.
Regarding the earlier post shifting with the heal doesn't seem any harder then with the toe but that may be besause of the extension I have on mine.

Re: floor boards
My father had floor boards on a Voyager that he bought and because of people resting their foot on the shifter or shifting it improperly, it caused the shifting forks to bend, and two gears to go bad as a result of this. Be careful with the floor boards! I personally like them on my Kawasaki Nomad and my Victory V92, but hated them on the Voyager.

Re: floor boards
Many riders like the floorboards because the way your foot position is more comfortable and able to move around and they like the heel toe shift.
ONE thing they do not consider
(VERY IMPORTANT!!) is when you have floorboards that the additional hardware makes the XII wider at the point where you put your feet down, so if you are one who is just a little short on one end, you will find that you cannot get both feet down on the pavement correctly and will not feel confident when in a stopped position. So make sure you check this little item out before you spend the $ for floorboards and then have to sell them. It is why you see them for sale a lot of times..

Re: floor boards
I've only looked at one Voyager for sale, but the deal breaker was the floorboards and heel-toe shifter. They looked like scrape city. That, and the answer to the question, 'why are you selling?'
"It didn't work out."

Re: floor boards
That answer should never be a deal breaker ,it should be a negotiating tool.
I understand about not liking floor boards ,I love them on a 1300 but was not impressed on a XII.
Your buying a touring bike not a sport bike so for me riding comfort far outweighs scraping pegs .
