driver backrest
Any driver backrest suggestions for a 2011 Voyager 1700? Anyone have the WeRev detectable backrest?

Re: driver backrest
I have had the Grasshopper driver backrest, and now the Kawasaki accessory backrest. It all depends on what you are looking for in a backrest.NLer wrote:Any driver backrest suggestions for a 2011 Voyager 1700? Anyone have the WeRev detectable backrest?
The grasshopper was easy to remove and because it was springy was kinda nice when stretched out on the highway pegs because bumps would be absorbed. The Kawasaki Accessory backrest provides good support and is adjustable up and down as well as back and forth. The big plus for this backrest is that it is designed to be safe for the passenger in case you go down.

Re: driver backrest
Tried which backrest? The WeRev, the Grasshopper, or the Kawasaki since all three were discussed.1pig wrote:Tried the backrest, threw it away as it was not comfortable

Re: driver backrest
I've had the Grasshopper on my 09 for 4 years and works great for me.

I had a grasshopper on my back rest, but when I leaned back, I squished it.

Re: driver backrest
I'm looking for an aftermarket adjustable driver backrest for my '11 Voyager. It has to be able to tip forward so that I can swing my leg over it and that my passenger can also get on. Any suggestions for a good one or one that someone's had on for a while or had some experience with.
Also, does anyone have a full Mustang seat with the backrest installed on their Voyager. I'm 5 foot 9 with a 30 inch inseam. When I sat on one, it appeared that I can only touch with the balls of my feet which is not good if you're trying to move in nearly 1000 pound motorcycle backward and with a passenger on board.
Would love to go with the Mustang option, but it appears that I'm just setting myself up to drop the bike and maybe get hurt because of that height difference

Re: driver backrest
Backrest would be UTOPIA!! for any m/c you could not go wrong with one. The make a removable one with the bayonet connection or the permanent one. Expertly engineered and built to last forever. Has several easy adjustments to fit anyone.

Also sounds a little strange, but practicing, trail braking, slow driving or manuvering will give you much more confidence to operate a 1700. You can also add on a inch to the souls or your boots!! But practice practice!!! and really get to know the M/C and you will get rid of the problems... Ride Safe is most important..

I am considering the Grasshopper for my Voyager 1700. can anyone that has one on their bike tell me how easy/difficult it is for passenger to get on and off the bike with this particular backrest?

Re: driver backrest
It really depends on how large your passenger is and how they get on the bike. My wife steps on the left floorboard with her left foot and steps through the bike with her right foot. One hand on my shoulder and one on the trunk.kawman12 wrote:I am considering the Grasshopper for my Voyager 1700. can anyone that has one on their bike tell me how easy/difficult it is for passenger to get on and off the bike with this particular backrest?
The issue she had with the grasshopper was that it sat low on the seat and the corners would dig into her thighs. I usually just slid it off when we rode together.
No issue with the Kawasaki backrest because it can be adjusted high enough to be out of her way.

Re: driver backrest
Have had the grasshopper for several years. My wife is not able to get on last anyway due to a bad knee. I pull the rest off, she gets on the front then moves back, I reinsert the rest and get on the front. May sound complicated. But it's the better way to get on a full dresser when your pushing 60.
