What
kind
of ads are allowed in the
Classified Ads?
All
categories except the "Non M/C Related" category must contain
motorcycle or motorcycle related items as the category describes for
private individuals only. NO
COMMERCIAL ADS will be
permitted in any of the categories- home based or not. Obviously, the
"Non M/C Related" category can be used for just about anything else
(privately owned and offered) including cars, trucks, bicycles,
computers, furniture, and most other items. However, note that no
"Personal", "Dating", or "employment" ads will be permitted. Ads in the
"Non M/C Related" category will be moderated, and not immediately
posted. Acceptance for posting or retention of any ads in any category
is up to the discretion of the Admin. Do not post questions in any
category, use the AVA
Message Forum for that.
Who
can post classified ads?
Any registered
user
can post an ad. This includes AVA or non AVA members. You register by
clicking on the text "register" near the top of any ad page. You don't
need to be registered to view ads, however, registering may allow a few
extra features.
How
do I get
back to the AVA Home page
from the Classified Ads page
Click on the
AVA
Classified Ads banner near the top of any page that displays it. The
words "Click this banner to visit AVA homepage" is on it.
How
do I know if any
or how many Ads exist in a Category?
At the top of
each
category listing (colored rectangle with picture in it), and any
subcategories, you will see a number within brackets [ ]. That number
indicates the total number of ads in that category and
any subcategories of it, if they exist.
How
do I get
back to the Classified Ads homepage, or where all the
category listing are
You can either click on the
"Home" button near the very top of any page, or if you're in a
subcategory or list of ads within a category, click the "Home" text
just above the subcategory or ad list.
How
do I
select a category
to view?
You simply
click on
the picture or title of the category or subcategory.
How long does
an ad run
before it expires?
The default setting is 30 days. However, you
will get an email warning that your ad is about to expire 5 days before
that happens. You will then have the option to either let the ad
expire, or click on the link to go to your ad, and then click the
"Prolong" text which will extend your ad's time on the page by another
30 days. You can prolong your ad up to 90 days total (you can extend or
prolong your ad up to two times).

Why
can't
I post an ad?
Either because
you are not yet registered, or if you are registered, you have not
logged in before you attempt to post. If not registered, you must
register to be able to post and use some of the features in the
classified ad section. Please note that if
you are registered for the AVA Message Forum, your username and
password for the forum will NOT work with the classifieds, unless you
can update your profile in the classifieds after you register there
first. You need to separately register for the classifieds in order to
be able to post an ad there. To register, see the directions under "How
do I register" below.
How
do
I register?
Click on the "Register" button near the top
of any classified ad page. Fill out the registration form- we've
provided explanations with most input areas (fields). Note that your
username is what will be displayed as your name on your ads. You will
not be able to change your username after it is submitted without
contacting the Admin. An asterisk (*) indicates required fields. Some
information in your profile will be displayed when someone clicks on
your username in one of your ads, others will not. Fields are
identified which are not to be displayed to the public. After
you click the submit button to register for the classified ads, the
system will send an email to you with your temporary password. Although
this email is sent out very quickly
from the classified ad system, you may not receive it right away (but
usually do within minutes), and in fact, it may take up to a day
depending on your ISP or current internet congestion. If you do not
receive your temporary password email after 24 hours,
email to Classified Admin.
You can change your password to one you can more easily remember at any
time through your profile. Always write down your username and
password in a safe place in case you forget.
Is
all
the info I include or is required in my profile viewable by
others?
No.
The following info that you provide in your "Profile" will be displayed
to the public IF they click on your name in any of your ads.
The
rest of the information you fill out in your profile will NOT be
viewable by the general public, and is only for use by the Admin if
necessary.
How
long might I have to wait
for my confirmation email with temporary password?
After you click the submit button to
register for the classified ads, the system will send an email to you

quickly from the classified ad system, you may not receive it right

Can
I have my
Username and Password that I use for the AVA Message Forum
work to log into the Classified ads?
Probably. After
you first register for the classified ad section, and receive your
temporary password, log in to the classified ad section. Then go to
your profile, and assuming your username is the same as your forum
username, you only need to change your password to what you use on the
forum. If you could not register on the classified ad page using your
AVA Forum Username (someone else registered using it first), then you
will have to have a different Username, but can still have the same
password as the forum IF you change it from your temporary password or
from what you last had.
What
do all the buttons at the top do?
Home - This
button when clicked, takes you back to the Classified Ads home or start
page. It does not take you to the AVA homepage. To go to the AVA
homepage, click the banner that so states near the top of any page
(other than this one).
Logout - This is self explanatory. But I
would
recommend that you have the "save password" checkbox checked in your
profile, and not log out when you are done viewing the ads. This way
you will automatically be logged in when you visit the classified ads
section the next time, and won't need to enter your username and
password again.
Submit
Ad - Click this
button when you want to submit a new ad.
Search - Click this button to enter
search
data to find particular ads using search criteria.
Recent Ads - By clicking this button, you can view a list of the
most recent ads in all categories, no need to visit each category to
see new ads.
Popular Ads - Clicking this button will
enable you to view ads in
the order of how many views each received.
FAQ or Help - This button takes you to the FAQ or help
page.
What
do the links "My
Profile", "My Subscriptions", "Help", and "My Ads" do?
My Profile - Click
this to check or edit your personal profile at any time. Some profile
items are viewable to the public when they click on your username in
any of your ads. Those items that are not viewable by the public are
noted in your profile listing.
My
Subscriptions - This shows any categories that
you
may have subscribed to in order to be notified when ads are posted in
those categories.
Help - This is where you are at now. If you have a
question while using the classifieds, here is a great place to find
most if not all of your answers. Note: The "Help" link text is not
available for non-registered users. For answers not found here-
email to Classified Admin.
My Ads - The current ads that you might have in any
categories.
How
do I "subscribe"
to a
category to receive emails when new items are posted?
If
you are a registered user, you can subscribe to a category. You do this
by clicking on the text: "Notify me when new ads are submitted in this
category" when you are viewing ads within that category. Guest users do
not have this option.
How
do I "unsubscribe"
to
a category I'm no longer particularly interested in?
If
you are a registered user, you can unsubscribe to a category. You do
this by clicking on the text: "Unsubscribe from this category" when you
are viewing ads within that category. Guest users do not have this
option.
What
are the little
up
and down arrows for in the ad listings within the categories?
By
clicking on the "down" arrow, you will arrange the ads in ascending
order (no, I didn't get that backwards) according to which column you
click the arrow in. For example: if you click the "down" arrow in the
"year" column, it will arrange the ad listings from the oldest to the
newest. If you click the "up" arrow in the same "year" column, it will
then arrange the ad listings from the newest year to the oldest. This
will work for all columns that the answer can be considered in an
ascending or descending order. An explanation denoting which way the
order will be affected will be displayed when you point or hover over
either arrow.
How
do I submit
an Ad?
First, you must be registered. See above.
After you are logged in, click on the "Submit Ad" button near the top
of any page if you are not in any category. You will then need to
select the category you wish to post your ad in. After the proper form
for that category is loaded, proceed to fill it out and then submit.
Alternately, you can go to the category you wish to post in, then click
on the submit button at the top of the page, and the category will
already be selected, and fill out the form and submit. Note that with
this classified ad system, if a photo with your ad is desired, you must
upload pictures of your item directly from YOUR computer.
Are
all
the fields in an
ad required?
No.
The ad fields that are required are marked with an asterisk (*). That
way everyone provide at least consistent information for any of the
ads, and best serve all users. Non required field information is up to
the poster. However, in most cases, the more information that is
provided, the better. However, DO
NOT include your email address anywhere in your ad
information. Your email is hidden from the public, and if they are
interested in your ad, they can respond by clicking a link in the ad
itself. This will help protect your email address from being harvested
or obtained by web bots and cut down on the possibility of spam being
sent to you.
How
do I upload
a picture of my item?
Click the "browse" button beside the picture
field in the "submit ad" window. Navigate to where your picture is
saved on your computer's hard drive, select the picture and click
"open" (windows systems). This places the picture address in the
picture field. After the ad is submitted you should get a confirmation
message on the page. Check your ad, the picture should be there. If you
get an error message that the picture is too large, you will need to
downsize, but most digital pictures taken by camera should upload.
How
do I prolong
my ad when it nears expiration time?
After you get the ad expiration warning
email, you click on your ad link within that email. It will take you to
your ad listing (you may have to log in if you aren't set to auto login
when visiting the classified ads page). In your ad listing, you will
find where it tells you you have so many days left until expiration. In
that same line, you will see the word "Prolong". Click on the word
"Prolong" and your ad will be extended for another 30 days.
How
do I modify
or change my Ad?
Click the "modify" text either in the
category listing of ads, or if you have your ad open, click the
"modify" text in the upper right hand corner of the ad details window.
You will only see the "modify" or "delete" ad links in the ad listings
for your ad(s). You must be logged in to make any
changes or delete your ad(s).
What
do I do when my item
has been sold or I
get what I had in a "Wanted" ad?
When logged into your account, just delete
the ad.
How
do I change
my email address in my profile?
At this time, you cannot. Contact me and I
will help you.

What
if I forget
my Password?
Click on the "Login" button near the top of
any ads page. Then click on "I have forgotten my password, send me a
new one by email!". Enter your email address in the next window and
then click OK. Your new password will be sent to you along with the
Username associated with it. You can always access your profile to then
update it with a more memorable password. Note that you can only have
one classified ads account per email address.
