I have a LED volt meter from Kuryakin. I don't like it as much as I though I would. I would like to have a digital one that shows tenths of a volt. I think a guy could tell a lot more of what is going on in his system with one of those.

Tom, that 5 function meter is my favorite, with the clock and thermometer and voltmeter, etc. But, I've been through 2 of them. The first one, either the voltmeter or the thermometer quit, I believe it was the voltmeter. The second one got wet, and that was it. Part of me says, since it's only $25 that even at one per year, that's only 2 bucks a month. But, I'm getting tired of pulling the bike apart to snip and clip the wires.
This will probably be my next one: http://www.digitalmeter.com/ The only apprehension I have, is not being able to put it close to where the other was mounted, or at least, do it somewhat asthetically pleasing. I'd like it close to the rest of the gauges. I had the 5 function doodad on the cassette tape door. I thought about taking the gauge cluster apart and mounting the digitalmeter.com unit somewhere around the 7,000 rpm mark or similar, but I'm concerned about glare on the cluster lens at night. I'm still thinking of options. I probably won't worry about it until I have the meter in my hand.

That last web site looked great to me; but, I think I would be more interested in an amp meter with a similar design. I would like to know what my bike is putting out while going down the road. That way I believe I could determine how much more it could handle in the way of lighting (if at all) without upgrading the alternator. I've had a lot of cars but have never been a piston head and this is my first bike so I may be all wet. Do I make sense? If so, does anyone know of an amp meter that would work for our Voyagers?

Here is a unit I have used that worked very well. Similar to some above. From Electrical Connections (Listed in Related Links on the AVA Main Page)

http://www.electricalconnection.com/met ... /04101.htm
It is the three color type, single LED unit. List for $24.95.

I have the Datel 3 digit display.

I had to make a small hole in the dummy tank.

I had to cut away some metal from the cruise control switch bracket.

Re: Voltage monitor suggestions and one installation
Ten years ago I installed on a Suzuki 79 GS1000,(notorious for reg/rec failures), a Dynatek brand Charge monitor http://www.dynaonline.com/skins/product ... _Monitors/ It is extremely simple to install, unobtrusive, can be mounted anywhere and does a great job of telling you what condition your electrical system in at all times. $50 well spent. I highly recommend them.

Re: Voltage monitor suggestions and one installation
I have the same one that Bill O has and it works great. Didn't use the sticker, just have the LED sticking out. I know what it means when it reads Red/yellow/green. If I think there is something wrong with the system, I just plug in the volt meter I got from RV Camping world. Only $10.

Re: Voltage monitor suggestions and one installation
Fritz, I have a similar unit, but right now my cameras get plugged into my power point. I need to clean up my power wires. Hmmmm. I'd still like to have a more permanent meter, but, something to think about.

Re: Voltage monitor suggestions and one installation
I like what Rick has done with his. I think I would place it a little lower on one of the side fairings though so the light wouldn't be directly in my face at night. I have too much problem as it is with reflection off the inside of the wind shield. I have to use both the cover for my radio and a cover for my XM radio. AND, I us a tint cover on my cruise control lights to tone down the brightness. Its not so much the lights off these items but the reflection on the inside of the shield. Makes it so its very hard to see through it. My XM is mounted below the ignition key so I think I'm going to make some kind of 'hood' to keep it from reflectiing on the shield but will still allow me to see it.
Rick, what is the web site where you got your meter?

Hello Fritz, I bought my meter at Datel, it is a bit pricey at $50.

The mounting bezel with 4 screws and rubber gasket cost extra too:

Re: Voltage monitor suggestions and one installation
Just another idea for using the inexpensive cigarette lighter version. The plug end comes off easily so I drilled a small hole for the wires and used a dab of rubber cement to hold it to the cover.
However, it is not waterproof. Mine held up pretty well until I started getting careless when washing the bike. It still works but reads a good bit low. Think I will replace it this winter and then see if the old one can be recalibrated.
