I added a C/B using wizzards schematics and made a antenna mount for the C/B ant. I changed the stock radio antenna with a 4' Firestick II to match the C/B antenna. Put fold downs on both

You have some good mods there. I like it when people aren't afraid to adapt and think outside the box. JIM

Laser - great tips

Post by Wayne and Karen »

Those are great ideas. I especially like the brake turn signal LED's. Where did you get them?

And just my opinion (don't get mad at me)...Get a cheap spray paint can of the exact color of your bike from that online place and re-spray that bracket to match your bike color. I think it would really kick it up to have the exact same paint instead of a few shades different.

Of course, this is coming from the guy (me) who suggested cutting the plastic horn on his highway blasters to make them fit. After I cut the stupid things with my Sawsall, I read another thread where you can easily make the horn fit without cutting them if I have taken the time to look at them.

Thanks again, Laser.

handle bar risers

Post by Grumpy »

Thanks for posting those 'tweaks- very neat improvements. Could you tell me more about the handle bar risers? I'm trying to find a way to bring my handlebars about an inch closer / rearward due to tome hand problems I'm starting to have.

The LED lites I got off of Ebay about 2 years ago. They were
bought for use on my cargo trailer, but were not visable enough for the only tail lights.
In normal light the paint does match the bike. (except its not metalic) the flash realy changed the color.
The risers were from a freinds Valk Interstate that he removed for a longer set (free B) I can send you some more pics if you would like. I just drilled a piece of flat iron to bolt between the Voyagers stock bar mounts. Then drilled the flat stock to mount the risers. You could use about any Riser that mounts with a bolt up thru the bottom or one that has a stud sticking out the bottom of the riser. Most Harley risers are this way.

I bought a pair of the red ones and have them mounted under my trunk on my '89 VXII. I bought them off of Ebay and now the seller advertises on the Wyzard's Classifieds.

Try http://www.harrisonspecialties.com They are good people to deal with.

I first removed all the original antenna hardware.
I cut the wire to the antenna rite at the antenna.
I removed the mount from the bike.
If you look up from the bottom of the mount you will see a washer was welded in and 2 tabs were bent down to prevent the original antenna hardware from spinning when tightened. I used a punch to flatten these tabs also using a deepwell socket on the other side to back it up while Ii hammered.
I then stripped the outer sheathing and braided sheild about 2 inches back from the end of wire. I stripped about a 1/4 inch from the center conductor.
I went to my local truck stop and bought a CB antenna stud mount and a fold down. I mounted the CB antenna mount inside the original antenna mount.
I remounted the antenna mount to the bike and pushed the cable back through the mount. I crimped and soldered the end of the wire to the center of the CB antenna mount. I stripped about a 1/4 inch of the outer sheathing from the antenna wire were it comes out the back of the antenna mount. I soldered a wire to the braided shielding and grounded the other end to the antenna mount mounting bolt. Its recieving as good or better than original. I,m using a 4' Firestik II antenna
I hope this made sense.
