Trunk Wiring Harness Schematic
I am fabricating a plate where I can remove the trunk on my '02 Voyager and quickly replace it with a plate holding an aftermarket brake light. To make this as seamless as possible, I have purchased a 2nd wiring harness for the trunk. Looking at the harness I am seeing a three blade plug which I am assuming goes to the brake lights. It contains a red, blue and black/yellow wire.
Could anyone tell me which is for the running lamps and which is for the brake lamp? I am assuming that the black/yellow is a ground and the brown wires are for the speakers. Thanks!

Re: Trunk Wiring Harness Schematic
I'm in the middle of taking my trunk off also , My wires dont seem to be stock P. O. added something but this is what im doing to make a custom look.
This will make switching back to trunk a little more time consuming but all will bolt back in stock mounting holes......
To give my bike more of a custom look . After removing trunk from bike ( instead of buying after market lights ) take the light assembly out of the trunk turn it upside down plug it back into the connection on bike and mount back on bike this look give you lights on back that match + its already painted to match your bike ......
The next step is to make a piece to hide the wiring on the lights very easy to do as you can use the light bracket as pattern........
Im mounting the rack and speeakers back on the rear also, As a little chrome and the painted speakers with go along with the look i'm going after.... if you do this a little custom fitting will have to be done, I just made 2 brackets coming off the rear passenger handles for the front of the of the chrome rack . To hide the wires behind the seat and raise the the mounting points on the rear mounts for the rack I used an item thats in every house a 9 by 12 baking pan turned upside down ( dont laugh this saved so much work ) its all custom bend and clean shape. I just had to cut the back side so it matched perfectly to the light bracket .
Once all is cut and fitted I painted it flat black as it kinda matched the colors on my 96 voy..
Note all nothing I did could not be undone and made back to stock if I want to go back with the trunk..
All thats left to do in take off the voyager emblem as it will now be upside down on bike . Take care in doing this im still trying to do this in a way as not to scratch my paint .
Anyhow its something to think about good luck PHIL................

Yes, black w/yellow is always ground on a Voyager.JosephH1 wrote:It contains a red, blue and black/yellow wire. I am assuming that the black/yellow is a ground and the brown wires are for the speakers. Thanks!
Red is running.
Blue is brake.

I don't think anyone is ignoring you because of your post count. I am a total newbie just like you and folks like Chris & Carl have been more than generous with their advice and time to help me out. I think this is an awesome site with fantastic members. I think that you would have received a better response if you would have started a new thread describing your interesting project rather then sharing it in my thread about wiring schematics. I don't think many folks are going to find your description here in this obscure thread. While I am going for a simpler cleaner look for my project, I too am very interested in seeing pictures of your finished project. It sounds like a winner.
Cheers-
Joe

Re: Trunk Wiring Harness Schematic
That's not it at all. The majority of Voyager riders just don't have a need or desire to run without the trunk, due to riding 2-up most of the time. You're just playing a gig at a coffee house instead of Madison Square Garden. Just because the audience is smaller, doesn't mean the music is bad, right?snowbound wrote:...others would'nt must be my post count. Re: Trunk Wiring Harness Schematic
I have had my trunk off and have seen the photos of others. Fritz and a few others on the 3 websites, I like the way it looks and rides, but I carry way to much crap in mine to leave it off for very long. Perhaps if some one can come up with a plug & play simple conversion for it, I think it would be a neat accessory for the XII. Marv or Harrison are you out there???

Re: Trunk Wiring Harness Schematic
Actually Doug, I think my set up will be close to plug and play. I will be able to remove the trunk with 4 bolts, unplug the wiring harness and passenger controls, plug the taillight harness in, secure the plate with the rearmost 2 bolts and I am ready to go. I think it would take between 5-10 minutes max.
Update- the plate is cut, sanded and the first coat of primer is on. Wet sanding and coat #2 is on tap tonight.

Re: Trunk Wiring Harness Schematic
The rear most bolts hold the sliders. You should be able to remove the forward bolts and slide the trunk back, after releasing the catch, and it should pick up through the frame keyhole slots.JosephH1 wrote:Actually Doug, I think my set up will be close to plug and play.
