Using the CB radio input for an iPod?

Post by keithdan »

I am brand new to Voyagers having bought my 88 just 10 days ago and have never posted on any forum.

I want to use my iPod or XM radio on the bike, or maybe even the GPS headphone output. I know about the cassette adapter and have one but I like to have a cleaner look and I often have a tape in the unit for when radio signals are weak (this seems to be a problem on this bike).

I do not have a CB radio on the bike but was thinking that it probably had some connection to play through the sound system and that I should be able to make an adapter to tap into that system.

Thanks!

The easiest I have found is to go to Walmart in the automotive section and pick up a little FM broadcaster that will plug into the earphone jack of many MP3 players. I am unfamiliar with the Ipod but if it has the 1/8" jack it will work. You can tune it to one of several frequencies on the FM band and play it stereo through the radio. These run between $10 and $20 and use a couple of AAA batteries.

Make sure your "LO" button isn't engaged on your radio! That is for local stations and will in essence reduce your ability to find/listen to stations that have weaker signals. Some times I use mine and some times not, just depends on where I am.
