MP3 player perfect solution

Hey folks I know that many people have asked how they could play their MP3 player or other electronic device through their radio. There has a been usually two answers. Answer one. Buy a cassette converter pop it in the cassette deck and you have mp3 player. The only problem is what if your cassette player stops playing? No more mp3 tunes. Solution number 2. Buy an fm transmitter that plugs into your MP3 player. The only problem is terrestial radio can and usually does interfer witht the signal. Or the battery dies in the little transmitter.

So here is the perfect solution.....Scosche Universal Audio input.. The cost was around $30 from amazon.
This device plugs straight into your antenna wire and gives you an excellent signal. None of the problems the other solutions have. As a matter of fact the only draw back is the little hole I had to cut into one of the pockets.

Excellent sound! I have some pics. My son and I also video taped it. Once I have edited the video, I will put it up on you tube.

I would like some more info regarding the install. Too many of the same pictures (like the hole) to really see and understand what you are doing. Are you planning to mount that mp3 player plug inside the pocket or outside?

Sorry, we took a bunch of pictures hoping it would show people what we did. I have some video too I will try to post on you tube this weekend. Hopefully that will explain it better. I mounted the plug in the pocket (it is not H2O proof) the pocket provides some protection for the plug. The rest I mounted behind the headlight on the Right hand side of the bike. I used velcro to hold it in place. I use my Android Phone to plug into the plug. So I get Internet radio, audiable books, music, podcast oh yeah and phone. The whole was drilled center of the pocket about 2" from the top of the pocket. You have to be careful drilling that hole. There is a part you can drill into behind that pocket. I recommend two people working together to find the place to drill. My son took a long screw driver and tapped on the back side of the pocket and I drilled from the inside of the pocket. I then took a rotary tool and dressed it up from inside the pocket. I will look for some sort of rubber grommet to place in the hole (sooner or later).

I just ordered one. I'll post install and usage results. Though I have used the FM modulators on each device with varying degrees of success, I currently run my GPS (Garmin Nuvi with MP3 player) or my Sirius radio directly into my Nolan N-COM helmet via a cord. I would like to run them through the Clarion unit, though, to take advantage of the left handlebar easy-to-use buttons (mute, volume, etc.). Anyway, I'll update when its installed...

trying to get video uploaded to Youtube. Problem with youtube.

However I rode to the beach this week for a long weekend. Plugged my android phone into the device. Played podcast and music. Worked really great. I mean no problems with the device at all. Sound was better than any other device I have used and that includes the cassette adapter. It was so much better than the little fm transmitter. No need to stop and look for a new radio station. It just worked and that is the best fix to the problem.

Anishemaya, won't you still suffer from terrestial radio stations if they are transmitting on 83 or 88 MHZ with your FM Transmitter? The only advantage that I could think of is that it will eliminate the need to replace batteries. It is definitely a nice and inexpensive install though. Good job!

These work by terminating the antenna when the unit is powered on, and pushing the audio through from the source, therefore no FM stations are pickup unless they are very strong. XM radio has similar options for connecting their radios to existing car radios. (which I have in my auto and soon on my Voyager)

Yes the device essentially disconnects the FM signal from terrestrial radio stations. Also the sound is so much better than the FM transmitters I can not even begin to describe it. Its actually better than the cassette adapter...IMO!

I picked one up off ebay .. 19.95 plus $10 shipping.. The only thing missing was the cable ties as per the instructions .. Woop de doo..


Yes,., when you throw the switch, the stations are no longer heard at all.. You tune the radio to either 87.9 or 88.3 depending on where you have the switch set. I set my preset #4 to 87.9 . When you turn off the adapter, you get FM noise . You are then free to tune as before..
The only issue I found was the output from my Ipod touch seemed a little low and I had to turn up the radio volume to hear it.. I will reset the adapter to 88.3 and see if its better..
I did try a GPS though it too.. That worked but my sample GPS has a mono socket and not stereo so it shorts out one channel of the cable that supplied.. If i used a mono to stereo 3.5mm adapter, the volume was louder..

All in all its an excellent device.. No messing with batteries.. no interference from strong stations. I did find it a lot easier to also remove the right fairing when installing.

Suzi I used velcro to attach mine to the inside of the fairing. Do you have pics of removing the fairing or video? I am really considering painting my bike. I have a fellow that will paint it a lot cheaper if I will remove everything and take the pieces to him. I have always wanted a big bike painted the same color purple as Prince's Purple Rain. Yes I am a Prince fan and dont worry my wife makes fun of me too!

Flip the when the toggle switch is on the radio is on but your stations will not work. However it is not difficult to flip the switch. It does not miss with your programmed stations either. I also tested the search function. If the device is on and you push search it will go straight to the magic station.

Also I cant take all the credit. A friend of mine that does CB work helped get me in the right direction. His brainstorming over my problem is what found the solution. So though he will most likely never see it...Thanks Tim. BTW Tim will work on the radio too if any one needs it. Very talented man.

No probs on Prince and Purple Rain!.. Some of his stuff is really good. The Wife wanted to paint her Burgman Black with a pink metalflake.. I think she REALLY REALLY doesnt want me to ride it.. I know for sure, I'll get picked on when I take it for its inspection

Perhaps what we need is something similar to whats on the Suzuki Burgman site.. Videos for virtually every part of a strip down or change of parts..

As to the Radios and CB's.. I strip down and fix the Voyagers Radios and CBs etc... Did one last night for a Board member :-).. Will be taking out a Classified Ad in the Voyagers mags soon too.

There are a few of us that have stipped the Voyager down for repaint. I did mine myself a few years ago and painted it in "Cool Vanilla", as we didn't want the two tone brown from the 1987 paint scheme, but since we just reupholstered the seats in a brown, we went with the off-white, the brown seats work fine.

Taking them apart is not that bad, but the trunk has about 100,000 bolts in it. :-)

Everything else is simple to take apart and put back together.

Just an update on the mod....rode to Georgia this weekend with some friends, about six + hours going about five hours coming back. The return trip was in the rain. No problems listen to my music and podcast the whole trip. No problems because of the rain.

I finally got around to installing the unit. Shares the right pocket with two 12V sockets (GPS and Sirius).



Seems to work very well for my Blackberry, my Sirius radio and my GPS! Thanks for the heads up on this one...

Here's what I plan to do eventually. Remove the switch and jack from supplied housing and mount directly to inside of that same pocket. Then plenty of room still left in pocket and makes for a cleaner install.
