CB / Headset Questions

Okay, what do I need to do (ie: buy, set up) to be able to use the intercom system on the bike? It has the two hook-ups but I'm completely in the dark regarding what I need to buy. I've seen posts that said something about a "Y" connector or something but is that all I need? What about headsets...do they "plug" into the Y. I'm just talking about being able to communicate with the rider and also use the CB. Does the headset allow you to use the CB? I've not used/seen a CB since the 70's and my Southern Cruisers group wants to start using them so I figure if I've already got the CB on the bike I need to figure out how to actually use the thing. Any "online" guides for the Voyager set up to walk you through??
Any help is appreciated...

well from what you describe, it sounds like you already have the Y cable (you said you have 2 hookups) So you would need to get a headset or pair of headsets since you plan on having a rider with you. I believe that most if not all headset cables come as two pieces, the headset itself has a cable with a small connector that connects to another cable that in turn connects to the DIN connecter (hookups). I am assuming that you have the factory CB radio, so you shouldn't need anything else.

Here is how it works. Headsets connect to the DIN connection (hookups) then everything runs thru the stereo, if you want to talk on the CB, you push the transmit button and talk into the microphone that is part of your headset. If you want everything coming through the headsets, on the stereo there is a HS button that you push which then directs all the audio (music, CB, intercom) directly to your headset.

If you need some headsets, I would get ahold of Neal...he can get you a decent pair for a good price.

Thanks for the advice.....will check into the headsets. Explains why my stereo "quits" when I push that "HS"....lol. I'm thinking now that "HS" might mean headset.....God only knows what I thought it meant before.....

A guy in our ride group just sent out a email today, stating that he would no longer be using his LAN line (Instead of Land Line), and would now be using a cell phone. He even used the caps for LAN.

If the goat knew what was coming I'm sure it would prefer to be an "escape goat" Technically the scape goat of the Israelites does in fact escape but usually doesn't survive the experience, however the root of the two words are probably related.

Since I grew up out in the Southest desert where I could barely get any decent radio stations I listened to many songs where I misunderstood the words and the songs took on a considerably different meaning.

Back to the point, "Neal" also has a username of Neal on the forum and is an Air Rider distributer. If you haven't already done so be sure to click on the "members" link above and find Neal and shoot him a PM.

HS stands for helmet sound. Most agree that music sounds better through good quality speakers in the helmet...you are almost there!

Just thought I'd post an update on this topic. After talking with Neal several times and debating on headsets I finally pulled the trigger and bought some. I had Neal set me up with a couple of HJC IS-33 helmets with the Air Rider headsets installed. I received the helmets Friday afternoon and we tried them out on a 290 mile ride yesterday. Very neat setup and was a simple "plug & play" with this bike. Helmets look sharp and are almost a perfect color match for my bike (Wine). Stereo sounds awesome through the headsets and being able to communicate with the rest of the group (CB) and with my wife on the rear was nice. The latter is still up for debate as she tends to ramble on at times which can be a little distracting at times but I'll figure that part out....guess the mute button would work? It was a pleasure working with Neal and the turnaround time from ordering to receiving was fantastic. Look forward to really trying them out on an extended trip sometime.
