when replacing rear stk. shocks

Post by ekap1200 »

here is a tip for those worn out rear shocks. The boots, if in good condition are a perfect fit for the front tubes.

How do they go on? I just got progressive springs in for my forks and I was assuming I would have to pull the fork tubes out of the tree to change them out and put in fresh oil. I assume they go on from the top when I would do that. Looks like a PIA to do pull them on from the bottom....

Excellent! I put boots on the front forks of my '79 Honda a few years ago, when I replaced the seals -- the boots should help the seals last for a very long time... Been planning to put boots on my V-XII when I install the new Fork Springs, and 412's, in the Spring. You just saved me $20+!!! Thank you! Cheers!

excellent Gene - I was getting ready to pum my emulators in, and it requires pulling the forks. I tried to find some fork gators that would fit but came up empty. I just happen to have some shock boots,so I'm good to go! steve

Yupper you have to remove the forks from the triple tree. Its a snug fit on the tube , just use some silicon spray and slide them right on. I used black plastic ties that are reusable, ie ( they have a release tap moulded in them ) NOTE: I have the oem fork brace , I don't know if the super-brace has the same clearence .

Hello ekap 1200, You clever bugger!! What a good idea, I have just replaced my rear shocks, so I shall remove them gattors quick smart. Just finished rebuilding my forks and I tried to get gattors locally, no chance! so it means pulling my forks out again but it is worth it to save the fork tubes from damage eh, Thank you!!!

Kind regards Martin.

I pulled my forks today, installed the emulators and installed the gaitors. Looks nice with my bedliner - painted lowers and brace. Emulators help the ride control too. Thanks! Steve

I'm going to have to wait to put the gaiters on because this week I was able with the help of a friend replace the fork oil and install progressive springs without having to remove the forks. Thank heaven for the tech tips!
