Will apologies for the Cross post elsewhere but..
While cleaning up the '86 which hasnt run since 2003 , Carl suggested that while I had the carbs off, I change the fuel filter as the gas I pumped out was less than clean.. (7 years old) and there may be rust or other nasties in it..
SO Of fit came and I refered to the AVA's Dollar 4 Dollar alternatives being either a Fram G2 or a Napa 3001..
Walmart had none and Neither did Autozone have either.. SO as I was passing a Napa, I dropped in..
Took in my original filter, and asked for the 3001.. The guy did the double take kinda thing and immediately said that the pipe fitting were smaller and the diameter was larger.. I mentioned that I knew..but could he suggest anything better..
Well he disappeared for a minute and came back with a 3011 (Napa number).. This one has a staged pipe fitting for both sizes..
I was expecting (being Napa) about $5-$9 for the filter..
Turns out.. NOTE: Napa at the weekends, takes 50% off the price of oil, fuel and air filters. (Napa Gold type)
So.. this filter, set me back a HUGE $1.76.. Yup you read right.. Bonus.. it fits in the original holder too ..
Here is its pic of the original and the alternative.
