Forced air induction?

Post by gearheadfla »

Had my fake tank off the other day for cleaning and was looking at the air intake for the air filter, and a light went off in my head. I have driven stock cars for many years and one of the things we spend a lot of time with is cool air induction and getting air intakes away from engine heat. It looks like to me the false tank can get a lot of engine heat in it. What do you guys think about rerouting one of the air vents from the front of the fairing with a duct to the airbox? I haven't looked yet to see how hard it would be but I think it would get cool forced air in the carbs. Just a thought and the twisted way my brain works. maybe too much time on my hands. :hmm:

Hello from NJ, while forced air is always welcomed to an intake, What ya do in the rain. Some means of water drainage would have to be designed into the air ductwork sys. Paper air filters don't do well wet. Guess I'm always thinking of what could go wrong with things. Gene Kap.

Good point about the rain, maybe I could put the intake vent in the "tunnel" that the front forks come thru, I have a bandana tied to my handle bars and there is a lot of air that blows up the tunnel and it will be out of the rain for the most part.

That's basically how it gets the air now. The narrowing of the faux tank cover almost acts like a funnel. The amount of air coming in through the tunnel would basically make it impossible to pull air in from any other direction. The only way you would know for sure if some sort of duct would be an improvement, would be to place temperature probes at the air box inlet, behind the radiator and under the nose/headlight. Comparing the 3 temp readings should tell you if there is room for improvement, or enough of a variance to warrant spending time and money to find a fix.
