Rear brake light switch adjustment

Post by gearheadfla »

OK, so what is the trick to getting a wrench on the rear brake lamp switch so I can adjust it? I have to push the pedal ALL the way down for the lights to come on. :hmm:

Others will have to confirm/deny I'm giving you the correct info, but just reach through there (around the top of the bracket) with your fingers and screw the switch (on the backside) clockwise until the light works correctly.

I would use needle nose pliers and adjust the switch nut. You may have to use two, one for the nut, one to hold the switch. This switch works just the opposite of most. The light turns on when the switch plunger goes up into and not pulled down on the switch.

So I'm guessing that I have to raise the switch up to adjust it so I don't have to pust the pedal down as far for it to turn on lights. My bike will be naked tonight as I'm getting some paint work done this weekend. :oh:

Well after about a hour of twisting, shoving and a little colorful talking I took took a rest, drank some Kool-aid (strawberry) and with a long screwdriver and a small hammer I tapped the bracket just a little bit and bent it down a little and now have working brake light on my rear brakes. No that method was not covered in the book but it worked. :hmm:
