How to turn the clock display off

Post by suzib6sw »

Apologies for the cross-post from abbikeboard but in an effort to reach as many as are interested....

Several people have asked if its possible to turn the Clock display off when the bike is left standing..
The answer is YES.
The Advantage? Absolutely NONE.. Current drawn with clock display active and bike off - 3.5ma
Current drawn with clock display off and bike off - 3.4ma.
Yup. .1 milliamp. Battery saving? = None to speak of.

This, like the clock reversal mod, is a DIY one if you want..
It also works with the bike running and the radio off.. The backlight remains on but the clock blanks. It may be a a tad unusual at night with the engine running to see an illuminated display with no digits.. Having said that, I dont suppose you would want to run the bike without seeing the clock or listening to the Radio or tape.

Anyway.. see photo.. Copy of the clock mod one but added an arrow to indicate the diode that needs to be lifted the same end as the clock mod diode.

For time/frequency reversal mod , see viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4493

Lift the end of the diode thats marked with an arrow for clock off with no power.

I have always felt that putting a disconnect on the battery for when the bike is not in use was kind of a waste.
Was the 3.5 milliamp draw for the entire electrical system ?

Just the Radio in this case BUT the CB will also draw a similar amount because it too has a memory of the last channel you were on.

I'll pop a meter on the bike tonight or tomorrow and see what the total draw on the '86 is when its off..
Cheers..
