off idle stumble

Post by bikermike »

Hi all!!
After i bought my 91 XII in Aug, i put K&L econ carb kits in it to take care of slight seepage from the bowl gaskets. i set the lowspeed fuel screw settings at 2 turns out.. since the 1st of Sept i've put 4800 miles in the bike. It has always had a slight stumble just off idle... nothing real bad, but i dont think it needs to be there at all... any suggestions? Thanks, Mike

Hi, have you eliminated the obvious problems such as unmetered air leaks (loose/cracked carb boots)? How does the bike run just off idle while riding in 2nd gear? If it can't maintain a constant speed and the engine stutters or hicups (for lack of a better term) you might try synchronizing the carbs. If there is still a problem and all of the basic items are within specs (spark plugs, timing, ect) I would clean the carbs. If you don't feel comfortable cleaning the carbs yourself you can try using a fuel additive before paying for someone to do it. I have had good results with seafoam, there are other products you can use if seafoam isn't available look for a brand name that cleans injectors and top end cleaner. I have a 1989 voyager and it doesn't hesitate at all.

Adjust and Lube cables along with cruise cable...if no change have carbs synced..other possibility is leaking boot on carb plungers. lilabner
