Fuel Filter

Post by VoyKimmer »

I just changed my Fuel Filter. No reason just that my 2002 Voyager had 20,000 Miles on it. Did not not know which filter to get. Kawasaki charges $21.95 for theirs. On the Doller for Doller it gives John Deere and Napa part numbers. John Deere was $7.95. Napa was $3.52. Went with the NAPA and it fit better. I have always kept my tank full and used good gas. I cut my original filter in half and found a lot of rust in it.

Good gas as in it is always less than two weeks old and it does not contain any ethanol?

Yes, In my area all gas contains 10% Ethanaol and it is not always two weeks old espaecially when I store it for the winter but I do use Seafoam as a stabalizer. Hope the filter did its job and kept all contaminates out of the carberators.

As a test, I put some ethanol (10%) in a glass jar with a sealed lid for 14 days in my garage. I compared that to some non-ethanol gas in a sealed glass jar for 14 days. The difference in color of the gas was very different. THe non-ethanol gas was still clear and the 10% was already turning a different color. They were both on the same shelf with no light hitting either containter.

I have spent more money on good gas for my motorcycles after doing that test. Even though the bike doesn't need the higher octane, it does deserve some cleaner gas. Just my opinion.

Flip, that's very interesting and yet one more reason why I will do what I can to get the "good stuff" rather than just any old fule. Funny how I treat my voyager different than I do my truck. Of course my wife would have a field day busting my chops if she knew, cause the truck's my baby. Guess that makes my bike my mistress then! L.O.L.
