New paint and ready for the first ride in two months..uh-oh
We were finally ready after two months of prep, dissasembly, paint, wet sanding/polishing, then reassembly. Loaded up the GF and we were off. Excited to be back on the bike and super happy it was looking shiny & new.
Took a corner out of the neighborhood and something scraped
Stopped at the red light and the old car next to us was smoking. As we rode it seemed the bumps were not as smooth as I remember. Then DAM it dawned on me, maybe it was us smoking. Pulled into the parking lot and had to lean the bike right to even get the kickstand down. Uh oh!!
As I suspected the rear shocks let go. The right one unloaded all over the rear brakes and some dripped on the exhaust causing the smoke at the stoplight. My hopes of carefree riding on the bike I just spent countless (blood, sweat& tears)hours upgrading its appearance shattered
I think I already know the answer, but can the shocks be rebuilt?
Thank you for any advice on this matter,
Mark

Rebuilt, I don't think so. Resealed and oil changed, I do believe so, If it's too broke to fix, Carl, or flea-bay has them, notice the order I put that in, Carl then flea-bay. However, Carl is on vacation (in your back yard) this coming week. I'm thinking this ain't going to be as big as deal as you think, and if you have the extra coin after the rebuild you did, mite be a good time to go to Progressives on the rear too, I'm going to when I get my penny jar refurbish from my refurbishing I just did. Come on now, where's the pics?????? I'm am trying to make the time during my week to meet with Carl while he takes his much needed break next week. If that happens I will mention it too him.

Let me know when & i'll come down. It would be great to meet you both
See what you done did, NOW not only did you inspire me to repaint the whole bike , NOW I'm gonna have to rebuild the suspension too! Why don't you just send me your upgrade list so I 'll know what's coming next!!
How do I post pictures.....(I know it's posted. I'll go read it)
Look for them soon.....

Hip001 - to post pictures you need to click on the "Img" button then paste the url between the two img tags. I see you are using Photobucket. Select your photo on Photobucket and click on "direct link." It will say "copied" then just paste the link between the img tags and you've got it! Alternatively, you can just click on "Img code" on Photobucket and paste the whole thing in your post without worrying about the img tags as photobucket will attach them for you. Then check by clicking on "preview" and you should see your photos. By the way, make sure they are no bigger than 240 pixels wide.

Everybody says the Wing is King but I just think the classic lines of the Voyager XII are the best out there. The 1500 Goldwing comes close but the Voyager just has it all together.

Re: New paint and ready for the first ride in two months..uh-oh
I owned a 1985 GL1200 Interstate before I bought this project Voyager. I like the wing but prefer the Voyager motor. The Wing rode nice but I rebuilt the suspension, added a larger windshield & Baker air wings and it had a Corbin seat. Hoping the Voyager will ride as nice when I do the same to it.
My neighbor is a Goldwing nut and has owned all except the 1800. He currently has a beautiful 1500 which he says is his best so far. I'm excited about this Voyager, and optimistic about the finished product.

You will really love showing your neighbor the back of your XII, but I would stay away from the 1800's.

That bike is really looking good. I remember seeing it when you first got it. I'd suggest getting some Progressive shocks and springs and never worry about air pressure again. You can still adjust the preload on the spring (also keep in mind that Progressive has standard and heavy duty springs). I can help you get Progressive shocks on your bike if you are interested.
I also want to make sure you are getting my e-mail. Please send me a private message to tell me if you are getting my e-mail (I sent out another message today to everyone) and to tell me if you want my help getting new shocks in place.

Mike,
Yes I'd appreciate your help. I Replied to your email tonight.
Jim,
it sure feels like the XII has the power needed. Can't wait to get all these bugs worked out!
We want to do a "Sun up to Sun set" ride(see sun rise on the atlantic then ride across Florida to watch the sun set on the gulf).
