Drive Shaft Lubrication/Valve adjustments
Guys haven't been on in a while and haven't been riding too much either. But I am planning 2 long trips this fall. I have had my '98 for 4 years now and have done almost all the maintenance myself. I was reading the manual and 2 things cam up that I have not attended to since I bought the bike.
1. I have never lubricated the drive shaft. It is difficult, and how long over the recommended specs has anyone gone.
2. Also the same question on valve adjustments with regards to difficulty and over the specs?
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Drive Shaft Lubrication/Valve adjustments
Not sure about the driveshaft, not tackled that one yet, but the valves have hyd. lifters and don't need to be adjusted, just one more advantage over the Wing.

Tim, I've emailed you a one page driveshaft lube tutorial. Evaluate & if you need something different, let me know via email reply.

Also, is there somewhere in the forum with suggestions on how to tether the lids on the XII? So far I haven't found them if available. I also need the compression plastic/rubber sleeve that goes into the tightening nut of the Markland Backrest (for holding the sliding tube of the backrest in). My wife got one for only $70, but one of the nuts and compression sleeve was missing. Found a nut, but it didn't come with the tightening sleeve piece. Thanks

kjsett:
There is information within the small tech book included with your full, paid, membership to the AVA, on how to make lid tethers. I need to do that next Spring, as well. Basically, it is a paragraph stating that you can use various materials to connect to both the lids, and the bag base. I plan on using web strapping, available at any fabric store; this is the stuff used to make straps on gym bags; it is made out of a type of synthetic fiber, so it won't rot. Cheers!

Re: Drive Shaft Lubrication/Valve adjustments
Thanks for the response. I will check it out when I get back. Packing up both bikes and the trailer for a ride from Phoenix to Colorado Springs to be there a week. Going up through Cortez, Montrose, Gunnison, Buena Vista and then down into Colorado Springs from the mountain side. Will be stopping somewhere tonight (motel I hope). Getting a late start because of work.
Thanks again,
Ken
