Flat tire on Rear of 1700

Post by HMB Don »

Coming home on I 5 the other day, I ran over something and it went through the tire. About eight miles from Tracy Motorsports, when I got to the dealership the rear tire was flat. I could smell the hot tire, they let me air up the tire, I then put a plug in the tire. It looks good on the outside but the inside of the tire is shot when I was using the reamer to prep the tire I was getting lots of carbon flakes. I was seventy miles from home, but that beatup tire got me home.

Just orderd a Dunlap American Elite 180 rear and an E-3 for the front. I was told that the American Elite is a dual compound tire, hard rubber in the middle and soft rubber on either side. Might be the answer to long tire life.

American Elite by Dunlop is a good tire. Did Tracy Motorsports not have a tire in stock to fit the rear?

I didn't ask, because I always change or dismount and mount my own tires at home. My focus was on just getting home.

Hey Don;
I have a nice used (about2200 miles) rear tire, really, really cheap! Give me a shout!

I, had the new American Elite mounted. This is the 180/65-16 and boy are the sidewalls stiff, I took off the E-3 no problem but when I tried to mount this 180! The short side walls make it so stiff that I couldn't mount it with my hand tools. After installing the tire and wheel on the Voyager and getting my first ride. I had to soften the rear shocks from the 40 lbs to 35 lbs and rebound back to #3. Tire pressure is #42, wow does it stick in the turns. Now if I can get 20k out of this tire I'll be very happy.

Kiven

I spoke to Tracy Motorsports about tire price and they were only $5.00 more Rocky Mtn the online store I used, I paid $201.00. Then another $20.00 to have it mounted, I balanced the tire and wheel myself.
