Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 ( dark blue jug)
I changed my oil with Rotella T6 5W-40 in the dark blue jug (for gas engine). No place on the jug did it indicate it was for motorcycles, therefore I hope I have bought the right product for my machine as I am leaving on a 900 mile trip Wed am. If not correct oil hope to hear from someone out there in voyager land before I leave. Happy biking!!!!!

Not sure about 5w_40. Rotella T for diesel (15W-40) is the preferred oil for large displacement MC's. It is what I run in my 2009 Voyager, and I've had no problems whatsoever using it.

Walmart site: "Get more from your car with this Shell Rotella Motor Oil (referring to T6). Shell Rotella T Synthetic SAE 5W-40 Motor Oil is a fully synthetic, heavy-duty diesel engine oil developed especially to meet the latest engine requirements. The advanced formulation of Shell Rotella Motor Oil offers users exceptional performance and protection in combination with enhanced fuel economy potential over conventional 15W-40 motor oils."Turbo4x4 wrote:Not sure about 5w_40. 15w-40 is the non-synth version. My understanding is that this type oil doesn't have the slipperiness enhancers that would play havoc with a wet clutch.
Your running what I do and it has already had 12k put on it (total 3 oil changes-Apr12, Jul12, and Jan'13).
Enjoy your trip without any worries about the oil on board.

any oil will work in a bike. just need the correct weight & non energy conserving.
"Motorcycle oil" was invented by the oil co's sales dept. They've made a zillion dollars by using those 2 words
Change it as directed and you'll never have a oil issue with your bike
We won't get fooled again!!
